 Gasing is a traditional game that is popular in

Malaysia. Almost every state in Malaysia has a group
of gasing players.
It is a blend between wood and swivel Ka (kayu)
and Sing (pusing), and if it is called repeatedly, it
sounds like Gasing.
Gasing has its own uniqueness which turns very fast
and does not fall easily when it is spinning.
Gasing is also a traditional game around Southeast
Asia.
It is found in Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore, and
Japan. It different size and name because each
countrys geographical location that influences its
name and shape.
In Malaysia, there are some popular Gasing such as
Gasing Pangkah and Gasing Leper.
for example, for Kelantan is the Gasing Leper or
Gasing Uri, Johor and Malacca are known for their
Gasing Pangkah. Similarly, Selangor and Perak are
famous for their Gasing Pangkah. This is basic form

Gasing Pangkah

Taboo or belief
They believe that after play the gasing, we need to take care of them as our own flesh and
blood.
For example, we need to clean it up instantly after done playing.
put it below your bed (not exposed to sun light), must provide a bamboo or cup for them to
sleep in straight to prevent their axis to bent.
This method is called Pertapaan gasing. Some said that gasing cannot be played on Friday
night in order to respect malay custom that often read surah yassin at that night, the head of
all days.
In gasing pangkah game, there is some belief in order to prevent a shaman effect such as
change the underwear or wear the underwear reverse. Or some who has already prepared for
this will wear clothes with pendinding.

people is well accept of the term of one product one district but why not one craft one
district because it is also can generate income while to hold this tradition firmly in order to
prevent it from extinct. Maybe government need to provide some teaching method for
anyone who wants to get involve in traditional games craftsmanship. Long times ago this
traditional games such as gasing is famous, in fact can attract tourist to come to our country
so it is not impossible to make it well known, again.

Our recommendation is our government should try to introduce one craft one district. Our
