OBJECTIVE
S
To treat the waste water coming from the
industries
To protect the environment from getting
polluted
Conservation of water

WHAT IS WASTE
WATER?

REPRESENTATION OF TREATMENT
PROCESS
PRIMARY TRATMENT
-Screening
- Grit chamber
-Fat and Grease removal
SECONDARY TREATMENT
-Aeration Tank
-Clarifier
-Chlorination tank/collection tank
- Sludge dewatering

PRIMARY
TREATMENT

SCREENING

SEDIMENTATION TANK

HYDRAULIC PUMP

SKIMMIN
- to remove oil and grease
G
Skimmers are used
in advanced
treatment plants
There are different
types skimmers like
weir skimmer ,
oleophilic skimmer
and suction skimmer.

SECONDARY
TREATMENT

AERATION TANK

Aeration in an activated sludge process is based on

pumping air into a tank, which promotes the microbial
growth in the wastewater. The microbes feed on the
organic material, forming flocs which can easily settle
out.
Aeration provides oxygen to bacteria for treating
and stabilizing the wastewater. Oxygen is needed by
the bacteria to allow biodegradation to occur.

CLARIFIER
-for removal of settleable solids

SLUDGE
PIT

The activated sludge solids were separated from

the waste water by the process of flocculation &
gravity sedimentation in which flocs are settled at
the bottom of the clarifier.
The remaining sludge was collected by a scrapper
moving with an arm at the bottom of the tank & was
discharged into the sludge drying beds for
dewatering.
The suspended material was also collected by the
rotating arm present at the top & sent to sludge
drying beds for dewatering.

SLUDGE DRYING BEDS

Sludge produced from the entire process

was collected and sent to sludge drying
beds where dewatering was
accomplished.

Sludge was applied on the top of the

sludge drying beds and the sludge was
dewatered by the action of gravitational
force.
The filtered water is collected from the
outlet present at the bottom of tank &
was again sent for treatment into
sedimentation tank.
The dewatered sludge was collected
from the top of the beds and sent for land

COLLECTION TANK

The treated waste water was collected into a

collection tank and stored.
During the storage it was observed that a few
dissolved solids were settled at the bottom of
the tank

ANALYSIS OF WASTE WATER

Analysis of the following parameters was
done by the officials and the results were
provided which indicate the level of
treatment.
- PHYSICAL CHARECTERISTICS
- CHEMICAL CHARECTERISTICS

REUTILISATION OF TREATED WASTE WATER

The treated waste water is reused for watering
the lawns, augmenting ground water levels ,
vegetation ,etc at site itself .
The treated water can be easily substituted in
the place of fresh water for some of the non
potable activities.
