Introduction
Baseball bats fall within three material classifications
1. Wood

2. Aluminum

3.Composite

Composite bats have been around as early as the 1980s for use in slow-pitch softball.
Most notably Louisville Sluggerdeveloped a slow-pitch bat that was awarded best
performance at the 2001 Bat Wars

Advanced Materials Used

Reinforced carbon fiber polymer (CFRP)
CFRP is sometimes referred to as Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic is similar
to fibre glass.
Carbon fibre is woven into a textile material and resin such as epoxy
resin.
Resin infused is pliable into carbon fiber sheets
It is very strong as it has the best strength to weight ratio of all
construction materials.
The sheet of layer is obtained from process of hot rolling.
The carbon atoms are bonded together in crystals aligned.
Several thousand carbon fibres are bundled together to form atow,
which may be used by itself orwoveninto a fabric.

This properties makes them famous in advanced sports technologies

When combined with aplastic resinand wound or moulded it
formscarbon fiber reinforced polymer.

Carbon fibers are extremely sharp when cut and the use of resins
and melting of foam can produce nasty vapors.

Swing weight

Measurement of the
head-weight feel of a
bat.
Example: Moving the
balance point closer
to the handle causes
the bat to have a
much lower swing
weight ad the bat
feels uch lighter and
easier to be swung.

Moment of
Inertia (MOI)

Depends o the mass

of object and how
that mass is
distributed with
respect to the pivot
point .
Example: A lower
MOI bat may be
swung with greater
speed and greater
control.

Trampoline
Effect

The bouncing back of

the baseball of a bat.
Occurs during and
after the collision of
the ball and bat.

Applications

Vibration and Damping

The impact of a poorly hit ball

causes the bat to vibrate, and
this vibrations in the handle
induce pain in the hand of the
player holding the bat.
High damping rate reduces the
frequency of vibrations.
