Pressure energy
Pressure is defined as any substance (hydraulic, water, air,
well bore fluids, and so on) that is supplying steady force
or weight against another object, for test purposes or for
constant use that can cause severe injury to personnel or
damage to property if a sudden failure of containment
occurs.
All pressurized connections must be snubbed by a
satisfactory rated arrangement to prevent them from
flailing or kicking in case the line or connection parts, to
prevent personnel or mechanical damage.
For pressure testing and maintenance the executing
employee must obtain a Permit to Work and have a
positive means of verifying the system pressure before
any isolations or work may begin.
When pressure testing the area should be barricaded and
an announcement made to inform the crew of the pending
operation.
During regular operations never exceed the normal
operating pressure. The system pressure rating must be
able to be easily read by the operator.
Pressure Energy
All personnel involved in the operation must take part
in the TBRA to be made aware of the possibility of
trapped pressure in any pressurized system.
All fixed-pressure vessels must have the maximum
safe working pressure indicated and a means of
indicating current pressure. Pressure relief
mechanisms must be installed to prevent exceeding
the safe working pressure, and must be tested in
accordance with applicable recommendations and
regulating bodies.
Pressure Energy
Compressed air
Compressed air must not be used as a means of
removing dust, dirt, and so forth, from a persons
body or clothing.
Compressed air must not be used for blowing a drift
through tubular or for clearing a blocked line or
pipe, except during the routine operation of the bulk
system.
Hoses and fittings must be suitable for the intended
use (pressure, volume, and so forth) and properly
installed and secured in case of connection failure.
