Rolling of CMU200
CMU200 is a measurement instrument which designed to use for Developing, Producing
and Maintain the Cell phone.

All those Cell Phone was made based on the Specification like in below.
GSM/GPRS : ETSI(European Telecommunication Standard Institute)
WCDMA : 3GPP(3rd Generation Partnership Project)
For CDMA, AMPS and TDMA also having such a specification.

CMU200 was designed based on that specification, and do the measurement as

mentioned in that specification. Especially during the Call Testing, CMU200 working as a
Base Station, and do measuring.

3 kinds of CMU200
CMU200v02
Original CMU200
Can be used for all kind of use.

CMU200v30
CMU200v30 is identical to
Calibration procedure.
Only can be used for Calibration :
Can not perform Final Test

CMU200v10
Dedicated to Service Market.
Good for the place which not
a time critical field, like service center.

HSDPA/HSUPA transmission rates

The data transmission rates in tests of WCDMA mobile phones extend into the megabit range
in the downlink (highspeed downlink packet access, HSDPA) and uplink (highspeed uplink
packet access, HSUPA). As always, all relevant RF parameters can be measured and
applications can also be tested in these two cases

Protocol analysis
The R&SCMU-Z46 WCDMA message analyzer and recorder option allows all
universa terrestrial radio access network (UTRAN)protocol layers to be recorded,
which can then be used for more detailed analysis. This powerful tool permits indepth analyses, including transport layer analyses

Mar 2010 | CMU200 training R&D | RSVN | 15

Video telephony
l Video telephony is the most spectacular new

WCDMA application. It is unique in that it is cicuitswitched, and not IP-based like the previously
described applications.
l The test is performed in echo mode, where the

transmission and reception of video and audio

signals can be checked with just one mobile phone.
l The video telephony signals transmitted by the

phone to the R&S CMU200 are looped back by the

radio tester and displayed by the phone as would-be
video and audio signals of a called station

Mar 2010 | CMU200 training R&D | RSVN | 16

I/Q and IF interfaces for the CMU200

l The CMU-B17 option allows access to

analog I/Q and IF signals in both

communication directions (uplink and
downlink). Once a radio link has been
established, complex I/Q signals can be
applied or transmitted for further
analysis
l During normal operation without
access to I/Q or IF signals, the interface
module can be set to the by
pass mode
l Receiver tests under fading conditions
l Testing of mobile radio modules

*) Old Link Handler Board(CMU-B21) cant support WCDMA signaling.

**) Actually another HW option CMU-B66 is needed, but this was normally displayed as Included in CMU-B68.
***) CMU-K64 supports HSDPA signaling, up to 3.6Mbps data throughput, CMU-K60 supports up to 14 Mbps
****) CMU-K48 option is related to the calibration item so called Polar Modulator Calibration process. Unless the RX calibration will not work.
*****) To perform correctly for WCDMA Calibration procedure, you shouldnt use the FW version 4.2X series.

CMU200 - Using Function Group

l Function groups are dedicated to a

specific technology.
l A function group is a software option
(CMU-Kxx package).
l Each function group is independent from
each other.
l Function group contains 2 applications
(Non-Signaling and Signaling.)
l The Non-Signaling application combines
the CMU hardware and software resources
in a way that CMU behaves as general
purpose equipments (Power Meter, SA,
etc).
l The Signaling application combines the
CMU hardware and software resources in a
way CMU behaves as a base station
simulator.
