These are the first

sketches Ive ever
done for school work.
These sketches are
initial design ideas I
had for my GCSE
project where I had to
create a mood lamp.
These sketches were
done under pressure
to force out ideas
whether or not the
ideas will be used,
each sketch was done
under 5 mins and a
few pictures are
placed nearby for
inspiration. Some of
the sketches are
inspired by buildings
such as the Burj Al
2
Arab and the Sydney

These are my initial

sketches for my AS
Level project where
I was required to
make a stool for an
island table. All
these sketches
were inspired by
natural objects
which are projected
at the top of the
page. Some ideas
were made from
taking out
properties from two
other sketches to
create a design
which is more
complex than the
original. I used
thick-thin line
technique to make
the sketches look
3
more realistic.

These were also a

part of my AS
Level project.
These designs
were inspired by
architectural
landmarks and
different types of
buildings. For both
of these designs I
rendered them
using colour
pencils, using fine
liners, the thickthin line technique
can be seen in all
drawings. A
combination of
concepts can be
seen to create
more complex
designs

These 3 pages are initial sketches

of a Multipurpose shoe rack for my
ongoing A Level project. I sketched
a variety of ideas for a possible
design to use, but only selected
designs are further improved as
they have a thick-thin line and are
rendered. These selected sketches
are chosen as they are possible
designs that I will use for my

The top right page of

the sketches are
designs which are
created with
inspiration. For
example the design
just above the green
car is another design
created from the
concept of Burj Al
Arab, it is just
rotated on its side
to create space for
functionality.

DEVELOPM
NT
This is a
development page
for my A Level
project. The
development starts
from top left and
ends at bottom
right. I needed to
explore ideas so I
added in and took
away different
features to see how
the design would
look like. These
designs were also
rendered and thinkthin like is applied
to create realism

and to see whether

This is the design I

used for my GCSE
project, I made a
cardboard model
which has accurate
measurements to
physically see if
there was any
defects. I also made
a CAD model to see
if the colours of the
material suit each
other.

These are the three

designs I chose to
create a model. I
made these models
out of card, wooden
sticks and a hot glue
gun. These models
were made to see the
proportions of the
materials so that I
could see the amount
of materials needed
to create the actual
product.

These are models Ive made for

my ongoing A Level project. I
made cardboard models for a
few of the sketches and then I
made a CAD model with
accurate measurements
including anthropometrics to see
if the sizes suits the design. I
also needed to take in account
of the manufacture of each
design and chose the one with
the most possible product that
can be manufactured in my 8

my AS Level Project and it

is made out of 3 different
materials. Plywood is used
for the back and the sides
of the stool, I CNC routed a
sheet of plywood into the
three pieces to get the
irregular shapes and then
glued them perpendicular
to each other. I then used
flexi plywood to create the
bend in the product, I used
the sides of the plywood as
a jig to follow the bend and
then I glued them together.
For the footrest, I used two
sizes of mild steel rods, I
drilled the thinner rod into
the thicker rod to create a
rectangular shape, I then
drilled a hole through the
flexi plywood so the
footrest can come out
9
through the front.

This is the finished product for my GCSE project which is made out of 3 different materials. For the base of the lamp, I used the laser-cutting
machine to create a finger-joint shape on a laser plywood, this allowed the base to be hollow and light. Then for the four corners, I cut
aluminium strips into 40mm by 110mm, drilled two holes on the left side of the strips and used the magna-bend machine to bend the
aluminium strips at a 90 degrees angle. The polymer used for the diamond shape is polypropylene, I created a shape net on the computer
which I sent to the laser-cutting machine to laser cut the polypropylene into the shape, I then folded the polypropylene to create the
diamond shape. Whilst creating the shape net, I had to think about the size of the diamond so that the user can fit their hands to reach the
light
bulbs when
they
are to be because
replaced.
I am inspired
to study
architecture
Ive always liked applying the skills I learn in the classroom to real life. Im currently doing Product Design and
with the knowledge and skills I obtained from these classes, I like to analyse products I come across, I am excited to attend this course so I can do the
same for architecture. When I look at unique buildings, I try to work out what the structures are that allow it to stand the way it does. From where I live,
the buildings here tend to be similar and unimaginative, this inspires me to study architecture as it will allow me to be involved with creating a change to
the buildings, designing exotic buildings would mean that I might be able to impact people in the same way I have been.
Ive always been interested in Product Design as I enjoy model making, I understand that architecture requires a lot of model making and understanding
the physics and engineering behind the design. I understand that architecture will require a lot of commitment as the amount of work load will make it
difficult to complete tasks but I am willing to put in the effort and time to do my best in completing these tasks.
Throughout my GCSE and A Level projects, Ive adapted to being realistic with my designs and it has helped a lot as it reduces problems that could be
time consuming to deal with. I have had conversations with my clients and teachers to understand their expectations of the product and my designs had
changed with these feedbacks, therefore I am confident that I will be able to work with a large range of clients to improve and present my design as close
as my clients vision of the design.
