Water from Rivers Lakes, Usually high bacterial count, high TDS and
Pond or Surface Water- low in minerals, High in Turbidity
Polio Virus
Size: 0.004- 0.1 micron in diameter
is the smallest of the infectious microorganism.
Giardia lamblia
infection can occur through ingestion of dormant cysts
in contaminated water, food, or by the fecal-oral route
(through poor hygiene practices). The Giardia cyst
can survive for weeks to months in cold water[
Salmonella
Typhoid fever is an acute illness associated
with fever caused by the Salmonella typhi
bacteria. It can also be caused by Salmonella
paratyphi, a related bacterium that usually
causes a less severe illness. The bacteria are
deposited in water or food by a human carrier
and are then spread to other people in the
area. Typhoid Fever occurs when some of
the Salmonella organisms are not killed by
the normal human immune defenses
(macrophage cells). Salmonella then survive
and grow in the human spleen, liver, and
other organs and may reach the blood
(bactermia). Salmonella can be shed from
the liver to the gallbladder, where they can
continue to survive and be secreted into the
patient's feces for up to a year.
Salmonellosis (gastroenteritis)characterized
by nausea, vomiting and diarrhea) is the
most common disease caused by the
organisms.
Amoeba
Amoeba (genus)
There are many species in this genus.
They are very difficult to tell apart.
Amoebas, like all protists, are single-celled organisms. Cells
are the building blocks for all life forms. "Single-celled" means
that amoebas have only one cell for their entire body. A human
body has more cells than you can count.
The inside of an amoeba is a jelly-like fluid called cytoplasm.
Bits of food and other materials float around in the protoplasm.
Amoebas are so tiny that you need a microscope to see them.
They live in water, including lakes, ponds, streams, rivers, and
puddles. Some can even live in the bodies of animals.
Reverse osmosis is an excellent choice for almost all
home water purification needs. It is the most recommended
solution for individuals on a pre-treated municipal water system.
While reverse osmosis can be very effective in removing bacteria
and viruses

Media Filtration
When two or more kind of media is mixed together in
a tank, this is called Multi-media.
This type of filters offers a bigger capacity to accept
ANTHRACITE particles such as sand, mud and silts as compared to a
cartridge type filter.
SILICA
SAND It has removal rating of 100 micron down to 5 micron
COURSE
SAND because the media is arranged in a way that the biggest
and lightest particle is on top and the smallest and the
MEDIA #5
heaviest media is on the bottom part of the tank

How Media Filtration Works
Filtered water comes out
Raw water comes in and travels down
the media
* Backwash is the “reverse” of the regular
flow of water with higher pressure & flow rate
