HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF


ALABAMA
The University of Alabama was founded with an act of United

States Congress in 1818 authorizing the newly formed Alabama


Territory.

The education on campus began in 1831.


The University of Alabama was founded by the Alabama

Legislature.

The university was admitted to the Union on March 20, 1819.


The Denny Chimes Monument in the quad of the university was

named after a former president of the school in 1912.

DESCRIPTION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF


ALABAMA
The University of Alabama is located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
This college is a public university.
There is no religious affiliation because it is a public university and a state

college.

The University of Alabama is co-ed, with females and males.


This university has 31,958 students and 1,026 acres in size.
The University of Alabama has a student center called the Ferguson, five

main libraries, two workout gyms, one main quad, one engineering quad,
and one art and history quad, etc.

Each athletic team has their own facility.

APPLICATION MATERIALS
The requirements of applying at the University of Alabama

are submitting SAT and ACT scores, two mandatory essays,


and high school cumulative GPA of 3.66.

In terms of educational preparation, the college preparatory

curriculum minimum unit requirements for regular


admissions are four units of English, four units of Social
Studies, including World History or a comparable course,
three units of Mathematics, including Algebra I, Algebra II,
one unit of Geometry, and Calculus.

Also, the applicants must have three units of science, one

unit of foreign language, and five units of academic courses.

Fall Application Deadline April 1.
Test Scores due April 1.
College will notify student for regular admission August 1.
Student must reply to acceptance- rolling.
Housing deposit due- February 1.
No early decision or early action opportunities.
The Univeristy of Alabama has a rolling admission.

ACADEMICS
If a student is put on academic probation, the university will not let the

student register for the classes for the next semester until their grade
rises to the GPA minimum.

Also, if the student is an athlete, they will not be permitted to

participate in any athletics until their GPA reaches the minimum.

A selective few of the majors offered are American and African Studies,

Biology, Chemistry, Criminal Justice, International Studies, Law,


Mathematics, Psychology, etc.

The University of Alabama offers The Deans List which is the

students at the university that have above a 3.5 GPA.

The university also provides the students with an honors program and

the option of a double major if that is what the student choose to do.

Depending on the major or minor the student is studying, the

university supplies opportunities for the students to travel the


world based on their major/minor.

This college provides the fundamental liberal arts foundation

necessary to the education of all University of Alabama


students.

Based on the students GPA, the university provides a wide

variety of internships for different majors/minors.

The degrees offered at the University of Alabama are

undergraduate, bachelor, masters, law degree, and doctorate.

SURROUNDING AREA ACTIVITIES


About an hour away from the campus, there is a huge shopping mall

that many students go to.

There is also a shopping mall on campus that is evry popular with the

students.

On the campus of the University of Alabama, there is a Walmart and

Target for grocery shopping and there are also many restaurants all
around campus.

There are all the athletic centers for all the sports team all around the

campus as well.

There is also one main theater on the university campus and a

performing arts theater.

FINANCIAL AID AND SCHOLARSHIPS


There are a variety of different financial aid packages, depending on each

individual student.

The University of Alabama offers loans, federal-aid, grants, and work study.

CAREER SERVICES
The placement rate for nursing at the University of

Alabama is 43% to get into the Capstone College of


Nursing.

The University of Alabamas nursing program will help

you get a job very quickly because they are very wellknown for their Capstone College of Nursing.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
The university offers student government, student organizations,

fraternity and sorority life, service and volunteerism, and social


media.

Varsity sports at the University of Alabama are football, gymnastics,

basketball, baseball, rowing, cross country, golf, soccer, softball,


swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

All through the university, there are many opportunities offered for

volunteering and helping around the campus.

ON CAMPUS LIVING
The dorms available are coed men, women, international students, apartments for

married couples, disabled students, theme housing, and housing in fraternities and
sororities.

On campus living is guaranteed for only one year, as a freshman.


When the student puts his/her deposit down, the student gets the option of selecting

names he/she wants to room with and that is how to request a roommate.

To change roommates, the students must talk to their floor resident, who is an older

student from the university, and they try to workout a change.

Depending on what dorm the students are living in, there are different rules for what

they can and cannot have.

Also, if the student is living in a dorm, there are no pets permitted.


Some Fraternities and Sororities do allow pets.
Whoever accepts the offer and puts the deposit down first, has first pick of the dorms

and that is their lottery system.

There are several bank ATMs spread all through the

campus for the students to use.

Alcohol is allowed in dorms and fraternities if the

student are of age.

However, there is a strict no alcohol policy in

sororities.

MEAL PLANS
The University of Alabama has four main dining halls.
The cost of the meal plans are about $1,000 a

semester, depending on the plan the student picks.

The dining halls are spread all over campus, so all the

students can be near a dining hall.

They offer a variety of selection such as a salad bar,

pizza, barbeque, etc.

Late at night, the dining halls close, so the students

get other food from other places on campus.

ACADEMICS
These are the courses that freshmen need to take in order to

get a degree in nursing.

Depending on how many credits the students have, it

determines whether they are in the lower or upper division.
