ii) State two comparisons of the times

taken by girls and boys.

Comparisons :
i) On average, boys seem to be taking more time
than girls to complete the task.
ii) The time taken by boys has more spread than the
time taken by girls.

Q-2
The probability that the school bus is on
time on any particular day is 0.6 . If the bus
is on time the probability that Sam the
driver gets a cup of coffee is 0.9. If the bus
is not on time the probability that Sam gets
a cup of coffee is 0.3.

2. i) Find the probability that Sam gets a cup of coffee.

*
*

P(Sam gets a cup of coffee) =

P( Bus on time and Sam get coffee)
+ P(Bus not on time and Sam get coffee)
= 0.6*0.9 + 0.4*0.3 = 0.66
7

2. ii) Given that Sam doesn't get a cup of coffee, Find the
probability that the bus is not on time.

Formula:
P(A/B)= P(A &B)/P(B)

P( Bus not on time /Sam get no coffee

=0.4*0.7 /(1-0.66) = 0.823

2) The mean monthly rental prices, $x, for 9

apartments in a certain city are listed and are
summarized as follows.
( x c )= 1845
( x c ) 2 = 477450
The mean monthly rental prices is $2205.
i) Find the value of constant c.
We have,
Mean = ( x c ) / N + c
2205

=1845 / 9

+c

2205-205 = c
So, the value of constant c is 2000.
9

ii) Find the variances of these values of x.

We have,
variance = ( x c ) 2 / N - {( x c ) / N}2
= 477450/ 9 - ( 1845/ 9) 2
= 53050 - 42025
=11025
So, the variance of these values of x is 11025.

10

iii) Another apartment is added to the list. The mean

monthly rental price is now $ 2120.50. Find the rental
price of this additional apartment.
Let the rental price of the additional apartment be $ y.
We know,
2120.5 = 2205*9 + y*1 /10
Or , 21205 =19845 + y
y= 1360.
So the rental price of this additional department is $1360.

KEY : 3 | 1 | 0 means 13 Kph wind speed for Bronlea and 10
Kph wind speed for Rogate.

ii. A)Write down the median of the maximum

wind speed for Bronlea.
For Bronlea, n = 2+3+6+2+1=14
Now ,
Median = {n + 1 /2}th term
= (14 + 1 /2)th term
= 7 .5th term
The 7.5th term lies between 22 and 24 . So,
Median = (22 + 24) /2

= 23 Kph

So, the median of maximum wind speed for Bronlea is 23

Kph.
14

ii B)find the interquartile range for Rogate.

For Rogate, n= 4+3+6+1+0=14
Number of items in first or second half = n/2 = 7
Now, Q1 = median of first half = {7+ 1 /2}th term
= 4th term
When we count fourth term from forward,

Q1 = 7 Kph

Again,
Q3 = median of second half = 4th term
While counting the fourth term backwards, Q3 = 23 kph
Therefore,

interquartile range = Q3 Q1
= 23 07

= 16 Kph

So, the interquartile range for Rogate is 16 Kph.

15

iii)Make a comparison between the

maximum wind speeds in two towns by
using your diagram.

Comparison:
The maximum wind speed in Bronlea is more
than the maximum in Rogate in first two
weeks of April.

iii) Estimate the no. of shoppers

who spent more than $115.
From the graph,
