Major Features of Design

CO2 Canister of compressed air

Piston on sliding railings to crush paper

Valve to control air flow

Needle valve

Pressure gauge

PVC Tubing

Lingering Technical Issues

Deciding on what size CO2 canister to use

Choosing best method to load paper
Deciding on which types of motors to use

Motivation for Design

Beer Launcher
All group members used the idea for compressed air in their
prototypes so we decided it was the way to go
We agreed that a cannon was a cool design

Full Assembly of Launcher

5 inch long barrel with 1 inch diameter
Motorized valve at the end of barrel
Needle Valve mates barrel pressure chamber and CO2
Canister
Motorized control and sliding tracks for piston
PVC, 3D printed and plastic parts to ensure a lightweight and
affordable design
Sturdy frame to provide support for launcher

Control Systems

After the paper is loaded into the device the piston crushes the paper
and pushes it into the barrel
The piston then slides out of the way with the aid of a motor
A motor initiates the movement of compressed gas as it opens a
valve at the CO2 canister
When the pressure gauge reads the optimum pressure another motor
opens a valve that is attached to the barrel
The pressurized CO2 then launches the paper

Payload Development System

These two pictures show the piston when it

is in the inward and outward positions.

At the moment when paper is being loaded

the piston is in the inward position.

After the loading process the piston then is

pushed outward. This serves a dual
purpose.

the first being to crush the paper

the second being to insert the crushed

paper into the barrel.

Manufacturing
Plan:

The barrel will be made from PVC which can be bought at local hardware
store and is then cut and glued

The piston would be fabricated using a 3D printer and CAD files

Valves, the pressure gauge and CO2 canister will also be bought

The stand for the piston will be made out of plastic which is cheap. It will
be fabricated based on CAD drawings.

Challenges:

Fabricating parts within tolerance

Creating airtight pressure chambers

Creating modified ball valves
