Systematic Investment Plans

What is a Systematic Investment Plan?

A Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) is
an investment plan that allows an
individual to invest regularly a fixed
amount at a specified frequency say,
monthly or quarterly.
SIP is a simple method of investing
used across the world as a means to
creating wealth.

Benefits of SIPs

Regular Investing
Diversify investments over various time
periods.
Power of Compounding
Rupee Cost Averaging

Regular Investing

Investing requires a lot of planning

Firstly you need to identify your financial goals like
buying a house, your first car, marriage, education.
The next step is to set aside and invest a fixed sum
of money regularly to meet those financial goals.
This requires a lot of discipline SIP helps you
become a disciplined investor

Diversify Investments
Avoid the temptation of timing
your investments. "Market Timing"
is an activity best left to
professionals.
SIP will take care that you invest
across market cycles thereby
evening out the impact of
fluctuations and your average
price will work out to be lower
than at the market peak.

Power of Compounding
SIP offers you the Power of Compounding the
earlier you start to invest, the better it is from the
point of view of creating long term wealth.
The longer you invest the more your money will
have the opportunity to grow.
Eg: On an investment of Rs 1000/- per month, returns at different rates
generated when invested at different points in time would be as follows:
(Investment matures at age of 60 years)
Age

Rupee Cost Averaging

By investing a fixed sum every month, we
buy fewer units when the price is higher and
more units when the price is lower, thus
bringing down the average cost per unit. This
is called Rupee Cost Averaging.
SIP will take care that you invest across
market cycles thereby evening out the
impact of fluctuations and your average price
will work out to be lower than that at the
market peak.
