Mechatronics
invented by the Japanese engineer Ko Kikuchi in
1969
Mechanical + Electronics

To integrate electrical and mechanical systems in

a single device

The heart of any mechatronic system is a computer or an

embedded processor that is connected to the actuators and
sensors that are part of the system.
Transducer
- an electronic device that converts energy
from one form to another

Sensor
- a device that detects and responds to some
type of input from the physical environment

Signal Generator
- anelectronicdevice that generates
repeating or non-repeating electronic
signals in either the analog or the digital
domain
Classifications of Signals
Random Nonrandom
Stationary- Nonstationary
Periodic- Nonperiodic
(power signal- energy
signal)
Analog- Digital
Random & Nonrandom Signals

Random Signals

- degree of uncertainty at the time of their

appearance

Nonrandom signals

is one about which there is no uncertainty before it

occurs.
Stationary & Nonstationary Signals

Stationary Signals

- are constant in their statistical parameters over

time

Nonstationary signals
- when statistical parameters of a signal do
change with time
Periodic & Nonperiodic Signals
(power signal- energy signals)

Periodic Signals
- a signal which repeats itself after a specific
interval of time
Nonperiodic Signals
- a signal which does not repeat itself after a
specific interval of time
Analog & Digital signals
Analog signal
is a continuous function of time

Digital signal
is not continuous
