Product Analysis
This Phillips speaker is a grenade shaped speaker which is elliptical because it can fit the
shape of the human hand and curves in an ergonomic angle to hold it in. This product comes
in multiple colours so that it can be suitable / attracts for both males and females, and also
young people and elderly people. It has a micro USB port to connect with many modern
musical devices (which also doubles as a charging port) and also has bluetooth capability to
allow it to be wireless and portable.
It is made of PVC and is surrounded by a thick rubbery material to give it shock absorbing
properties making it impact resistant. This material also gives the user a firm grip on the
speaker. and makes it safe as there will be no sharp edges. It is covered with a material on
the top to give reverberations which improves the sound quality. It also has a carabiner which
can be clipped onto a variety of garments such as trousers, shirts and jeans.
The function of this speaker is to play music from devices, but the function has been
extended by adding a built in microphone and a call feature which lets you answer your
phone calls with a small button on the top. The speaker is very easy to use as there is only a
simple power button, charging port and a bluetooth calling button. It has a very long battery
life which demonstrates that this product is designed for travelling.
It measures 3.2x 2.9x 2.7 inches and weighs 0.28 pounds. This size and weight is ideal for
travelling. The product is not environmentally friendly however as the materials are non-
biodegradable meaning that they will not decompose/decay naturally.
The general cost of this product is 24.99 which is actually quite cheap for a bluetooth
speaker. The reason it is cheap is because it has no distortion limiter which would have
doubled the price of it, and the cost of production is low. It is good value for money as it is of
high quality and is certainly affordable.
Justification
The reason I did the product analysis was to find out about other speakers on the market and glean what they did well and what they
didnt do well. This means that I will be able to implement their success into my product while avoiding their failures.

The beats pill is a 7.5 inch long cylindrical shaped speaker which has a
diameter of 45mm and weighs 0.68 pounds. This is quite big for a portable
device but as it has many features, it boosts the popularity of the speaker. It
has a metal mesh covering the speaker with a small strip of metal down the
middle with the Beats logo on it. The metal mesh protects the internal speakers
but also allows sound to travel freely through it. This logo shows that this is a
Beats product which indicates that it is a high-range top class product. This
logo also doubles as the Bluetooth pairing button.
It has a rubberised base so that it can be placed on nearly any surface without
rolling over. On the back, there is a bluetooth indicator, a power button, a micro
USB charge port and 3.5mm auxiliary input and output jacks. The power button
has a mechanism which will prevent it from getting stuck when pressed many
times. The micro USB charge port will enable it to charge on the computer and
also on the mains. The 3.5mm auxiliary input and output jacks are optimum for
people will bluetooth incompatible devices and lets people put their
headphones and earphones in to listen to the music privately.
The beats pill comes in a multitude of colours which makes it suitable and
attracts both young and old males and females. The rubbery texture on the
bottom also provides grip for it.
The beats pill costs around 169.99 which is quite expensive but is justified by
the many capabilities of the speaker. It also has a complementary speaker
holding dude which can be used to elevate the speaker off the ground and
also will protect the speaker if it is knocked down. It also has a call answering
mechanism which is activated by pressing the beats button.
It is cylindrical and has no sharp edges meaning that it is safe for children and
adults alike to use.

Designer Profile

Salvador Dal
Salvador Dal was a Surrealist artist who was born on the 11th of May 1904, and
died on the 23rd of January 1989. He was inspired by Rene Magritte and Joan Miro
to concentrate on Surrealism and was married to Gala, who was one of the main
reasons for his success. Through the constant reminding from Gala, Dal
interacted with the art community and unleashed his imaginations which lead to
his most famous works such as The Persistence of Memory. Dals works have no
actual common themes as they were all based on random imagination, but his
later works were heavily influenced by World War 2 as it made a big impact on the
way he saw the world. Most of Dals work are dreamlike and are oriented around
psychoanalysis. In addition, his works often had religious influences and were
drawn from the unconscious mind.
I admire Dal due to his efforts and the way he influenced an entire movement. In addition, the way
he put his emotions and imaginations on the page was extraordinary. The designer makes me feel
inspired to make an impact on the world. My favourite painting made by him is his first one, The
Persistence of Memory. I like this as it conveys the fact that anything is possible in the surrealist
view. There have been many products in the 21st century influenced by his works such as the
distorted drawers and melted clock designs.

The designer profile helped me to understand the key features of surrealism and helped me understand how I could implement it in my
designs. This means that my design can meet the design objectives and be surreal.
