PENDAHULUAN
Kopling adalah suatu elemen mesin yang
berfungsi sebagai penerus putaran dan daya
dari poros penggerak ke poros yang digerakkan
secara pasti (tanpa terjadi slip), di mana sumbu
kedua poros tersebut terletak pada satu garis
lurus atau dapat sedikit berbeda sumbunya.
Berbeda dengan kopling tak tetap yang dapat
dilepaskan dan dihubungkan bila diperlukan,
maka kopling tetap selalu dalam keadaan
terhubung.

b. Kopling plat : kopling yang meneruskan momen dengan perantaraan
gesekan. Dengan demikian pembebanan yang berlebihan pada poros
penggerak pada waktu dihubungkan, dapat dihindari. Selain itu,
karena dapat terjadi slip, maka kopling ini sekaligus juga dapat berfungsi
sebagai pembatas momen. Menurut jumlah platnya, kopling ini dapat
dibagi atas kopling plat tunggal, dan kopling plat banyak, dan menurut
cara pelayanannya dapat dibagi atas cara manual, cara hidrolik, dan cara
maknetik.
Kopling disebut kering bila plat-plat gesek tersebut bekerja dalam keadaan
kering, dan disebut basah bila terendam atau dilumasi dengan minyak.

Design of Flange Coupling
d = Diameter of shaft or inner diameter of hub,
D = Outer diameter of hub,
d1 = Nominal or outside diameter of bolt,
D1 = Diameter of bolt circle,
n = Number of bolts,
tf = Thickness of flange,
s, b and k = Allowable shear stress for shaft, bolt and key material respectively
c = Allowable shear stress for the flange material i.e. cast iron,
cb, and ck = Allowable crushing stress for bolt and key material respectively

The hub is designed by considering it as a hollow shaft, transmitting the same
torque (T) as that of a solid shaft.
The outer diameter of hub is usually taken as twice the diameter of shaft. Therefore
from the
above relation, the induced shearing stress in the hub may be checked.
