I. Objectives of pipelay analysis

Static analysis
Establish vessel/pipeline configurations for all phases of the installation work
Provide input files for dynamic analysis in Orcaflex

Dynamic analysis
Provide the limiting seastates (design weather criteria) for the various phases of
the pipelay
Dimensioning/fine tuning of rigging, e.g. capacity of A&R heads or use of
buoyancy on terminations
Detailed analyses of special installation scenarios, e.g. laydown in areas with
anchor wires or initiation in areas with uneven seabed

The static analysis is the main tool for the bridge operators during the
offshore operations for setting up the vessel in the correct position during
the installation work

II. Static analysis

Analysis scenarios
Input to analysis
Output from analysis

4
Static analysis Analysis scenarios

Initiation
Performed with either DMA or DLA
Main objectives:
Identify a vessel/pipeline configuration to allow a safe initiation without damaging the pipe
Establish the minimum required stand-off or wire length for initiation (pending DVL or
DMA)
Establish minimum tension for DMA load test

Lay
Main objectives
Establish vessel/pipeline configuration for normal lay

Laydown
Main objectives:
Identify a vessel/pipeline configuration to allow a safe laydown without damaging the pipe
Define required clear distance behind target box in order to safely lay down the pipe

III. Dynamic analysis

Main input parameters

Output from analysis
Manual performance of analysis
Automated performance of analysis
