Problems & its solution
Pune is the largest non-capital city of India, contributing around 3%
of Indias GDP. An important base for armed forces, defense,
manufacturing, research and development, software exports and
heritage and culture, still the city compares unfavorably with other
capital cities on several infrastructure and planning matters.
Citizens played a Key Role

A survey was conducted at each household level, where each citizen was asked to
rank various infrastructure services according to their priority, most urgently
required and least urgently required. This was done during september-october 2015
and the survey was open to all.
1. Growth pattern of the City

Unplanned Growth

This stresses the movement of

people and goods every day on
citys small roads not designed to
carry the current capacity.

only options are North and East

now rather than trying to solve historical
issues.

Pune needs more suburbs, which are 5-10

kms away from the 2015 proposed city
boundaries. If these smart suburbs are
not earmarked right now, PMC will
continue to organically and incrementally
subsume villages in its ambit and the
s

situation will further lead to unplanned

growth.
2. Traffic & Transportation

Delay in Metro Line of Pune

The preparation of detailed project

report (DPR) work was undertaken by
the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and
they submitted their report on 15
August 2008. In 2010, the Pune
Municipal Corporation (PMC) delayed
submitting the proposal to the Union

ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS

The Pune ESR 2009-10 was prepared

as per the DPSIR framework
suggested in the MPCB guidelines.
It included an analysis of:
- Trends or changes in the
environment.
- Causes of these changes,
assessment.
- Interpretation of implications,
and impacts of these trends.

It also emphasized on the

assessment of actual and potential
societal response to environmental

PUNE TO BE CONVERTED TO A SOLAR CITY
Pune has been selected under the GoIs Smart City
Initiative and one of the important areas of focus under
this initiative is to substantially increase the use of solar
power, especially rooftop solar PV (RTPV) within the city.
Pune can significantly contribute towards the overall
national goal of 40 GW of rooftop solar power by 2022.

To enable citizens install rooftop solar systems, the

Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission
(MERC) has recently notified net metering
regulations in September 2015. Net Metering is a
regulation that credits the RTPV owners for the electricity
they add to the grid.
To further accelerate the pace of solar deployment in the

Conclusion
High population growth due to migration/job opportunities.

Unplanned land use. Appropriate land distribution should be

practised.

Lack of public transport increases private vehicles which lead to

congestion and pollution.

High capacity mass transit is required which will develop

suburbs and decongest the city center.

BRTs and proposed Metro should work in accordance under one

governing Board at Pan city level to discourage private
ownership.
Solid waste management, equal water supply, river pollution
needs to be taken care of.

Proper infrastructure will ensure sustainable development.
