COVER LETTERS WHY?
Highlight experience - A cover letter accompanies a resume being sent to
an organization for a specific position or area of interest. The well-written
cover letter highlights selective aspects of your background which best suit
the employer's needs. The cover letter bridges the gap (or "makes the
connection" instead) between your skills and experience and the
qualifications of the position.
Capture attention - a well-written cover letter commands the reader's
attention. It stimulates interest in you and your resume as well as reflects
your interest and fit within the job and organization.
Ask for an interview - the opportunity to interview is the ultimate goal of
your cover letter and resume. ASK FOR THE INTERVIEW!
CONTENT OF A COVER LETTER
First paragraph - this opening paragraph explains why you are writing the letter. State your
purpose; identify the position you are applying for and how you learned about the opening. If
someone within the organization referred you, mention the person's name and connection.
Second paragraph - explain why you are a strong candidate for this employer/job. Highlight
relevant achievements, skills and/or experience. Be specific about your accomplishments as they
relate to the job. Explain how you intend to help the employer and contribute to the organization.
Take the time to market yourself by targeting your skills to their requirements. Also, mention any
interpersonal skills that you have that add to your qualifications.
Third paragraph (optional) - this extra paragraph can be included if there is additional
information that hasn't been mentioned on your resume, or needs to be described in more detail.
Closing paragraph - the final paragraph describes next steps, which will depend on the specifics
of the job posting or your request for an interview.

AFTER INTERVIEW!
WHAT IS NEXT?
SENT A THANK YOU LETTER!
This is one of the most important, yet least used, tools in a job search. Fewer than 20 percent of candidates bother to
extend this basic courtesy. The thank you letter shows your appreciation, and is an excellent opportunity to market
your skills and interest in the position.
Thank you letters should be sent as soon as possible after the interview, preferably within 24 hours.
It is best to send thank you notes by e-mail for quick receipt.
If you are interviewed by a committee, you may opt to send one letter to the committee chairperson asking that they
share it with the other members.
State that you remain interested in the job, and in taking the next steps.

START-UP COMPANIES IN KOREA
Since 2014 the Korean Government has created the OASIS
program with the main purpose of assisting international
students to create start-ups companies in korea and also
assisting them with visa issues.
With this program students are able to apply for the start-up
visa d-4 and have the opportunity to legally registered their
business in korea.
Last year, 126 foreigners participated in the pilot project, and 5 of them have obtained start-up visas (d-8-
4). The full-fledged OASIS project has been further promoted and 132 foreigners have joined this year.
HOW DOES THE POINTS SYSTEM WORKS?
Requirements for start-up visa (D-8-4)
Bachelors degree + corporation establishment + 80 points or more points earned out of total 360 points (at
least one required item should be included.)
Completion of basic intellectual property course (OASIS-1; korea invention promotion association) (elective, 15 points)
Completion of the advanced intellectual property course (OASIS-2; korea invention promotion association) (elective, 25 points)
Completion of the start-up class (OASIS-4; korea immigration service foundation and seoul global center) (elective, 25 points)
Completion of the start-up coaching and mentoring service (OASIS-5; korea immigration service foundation and seoul global center) (elective, 15 points)
Achievement of the 3rd or higher prize at invention, start-up exhibitions (OASIS-6; co-hosting) (required, 25 points)
Completion of the start-up incubator (OASIS-7; korea immigration service foundation and seoul global center) (elective, 15 points)
Foreigner's business start-up item recognized by the minister of justice and selected as a central or local government-supported project (OASIS-9) (required, 25 points)
[Notes]
If there are more than one inventor (participant) for intellectual property rights (registered or applied for) and start-up items (OASIS-6 and OASIS-9), the total points divided by the
number of inventors (participants) are recognized only.
When more than two items are from the same category, they are counted as one. (E.G.: 10 points are awarded even with the three design application cases.)
Oasis courses can be individually enrolled (however, participants cannot take oasis-2 before oasis-1).
