Stereotypically people/consumers that listen to pop music
are likely to keep up with the latest trends, copy their artists as they are their role models and they will be quite qwerky characters. For example they are often extremely loud and attempt to dress and act like their favourite artist/s. They are seen as very mainstream as it is popular music therefore it has a very wide audience. The audience is also quite young as the older generation tend to listen to music that was created in their teenage years. The gender that is the largest consumer of pop music is females. This means that the magazine should be aimed at young females. Stereotypes for Indie Music.
Chilled/laid back. This is because of the way that they dress,
quite casual, care free and not to impress anyone but themselves. Artistic. This is because indie music is often praised for its artistic integrity, it gets an important message across. Passionate. This is because of the way that fans view and refer to their favourite artists. Calm. This is because of their laid back sense of style. Mindful. This is because they listen to multiple important messages portrayed by artists in their songs. Middle aged or young (not stereotypically elderly). Almost equal balance of males and females. (focus on the genre and latest hits rather than gender). Stereotypes for Rock Music
Rock music is often associated with dark colours in
magazines. A stereotype of the audience/consumer is they are quite dull and not very mindful because of this association with dark colours. Dark colours represent unhappiness and boredom. This is also because rock music is not praised as much for its artist integrity and putting across an important message to the public. It is stereotyped as a very specific taste in music. Also, it is often middle aged people that listen to rock music. Also, men are the largest consumers of rock music therefore the magazine should be aimed at middle aged males. How will I make this relevant to my magazine?
Create an audience profile and aim the magazine at this
person who is a representation or stereotype of the whole audience whether it is niche or mainstream. If it is aimed at a younger audience, include more eye catching photos rather than bursts of information. (stereotypically, younger audiences are lazy and tend to interoperate images rather than text.) If it is aimed at a middle aged audience, include more intriguing information with a storyline that they will want to follow. (Middle aged people are stereotyped as educated therefore, text would appeal to them more.)
