What is Knowledge
Management?
Knowledge management (KM) is a process that
helps organizations identify, select, organize,
disseminate, and transfer important
information and expertise that are part of the
organizations memory.
Knowledge Management is the explicit and
systematic management of vital knowledge -
and its associated processes of creation,
organization, diffusion, use and exploitation.

INTRODUCTION
Microsoft was established in 1975 by Bill Gates
and Paul Allen.
As of 2013, Microsoft is market dominant in PC
operating system and office suite markets.
The company also produces a wide range of
other software for desktops & servers, and is
active in areas including internet search, the
video game industry(with the XBOX and XBOX
360) the digital services market through(MSN )
and cell phones(via Windows Phone)
EVOLUTION OF KM AT
MICROSOFT
In 1995, a project called SPUD(Skills Planning
under Development) had started and was
developed by a unit within Microsofts internal
Information Technology group.
The project involved building an online system
that contained job rating systems and ratings
database and competency levels for employees.
The goal for the project was to create an online
competency profile for jobs and employees with
Microsoft IS.
