Overview of the Study
3

The study looks into Urban Green Infrastructure

(UGI) ,specifically Pocket Parks and their role in
health in dense urban areas in developed
countries
The study evaluated the use and users of the
pocket parks, the assosciation between the
characteristics of the park and their percieved
restorativenss, as well as relationship between
the specific features of the park.

Defining terms HEALTH and POCKET PARKS

Two aspects of parks are considered for
segregation restoration and socialising
Looks into the knowledge benefits towards health
by pocket parks
Study resulted in coming up with guidelines for
design of pocket parks with the two aspects in
consideration
Contributed to EBHD Evidence Based Health
Design

HYPOTHESIS & RESEARCH QUESTIONS
5

POCKET PARS ARE LATENT RESOURCE IN PROMOTING

HUMAN HEALTH IN DENSE CITY AREAS
How are the pocket parks used and who are the users?

Which factors influence the use of the pocket parks?

How do users assess the restorative potential of

pocket parks?
How are the nature characteristics(PSD) associated
with average and stressed users perceived restoration?
How are the pocket parks correlated to the preferred
types of use?
What is the users subjective perception of a pocket
park before and after a redesign?

Approach
7

The study was divided into 4 parts:

On site questionnaire survey-on use and users

Association of perceived restorativeness

(Perceived Restorative Scale - PRS) and

characteristics of the park (Perceived Sensory
Dimensions PSD)
Specific features of the park related to the

most preferred type of use

Users perception of park before and after the

redesign

Questionnaire survey QUALITATIVE AND
QUANTITATIVE METHODS
13

Questionnaire survey was done among

users to understand :
Fascination ( Tangible and Intangible

features)
Extent ( Sensory Dimensions perceived)

Preference (Cultural Choices , Transport)

Compatibility ( Usability of space)

Self Estimated Health Status

The data collected was then statistically

analysed using various methods
