PACKAGING AND LABELLING IN
AUSTRALIA
The Australian Government is
introducing a new country of origin food
labelling system because customers
wants to know about the food, like food
that they consuming from where it , is
this grown in

Australia or from outside country &

how it is processed etc. It is against the
law for suppliers to mislead you about
the country of origin of products.
On 1 July 2016, a new country of origin
food labelling system will commence
under the Australian Consumer Law
(ACL). It will apply tofood offered
forretail sale in Australia, including
instores or markets, online or from a
vending machine.Thelawwill not apply
to food soldin places like restaurants,
cafes, take-away shops, schools,or to
foodprovided by caterers.
Consumers can expect to start seeing the new labels
in supermarkets and grocery outlets later this year.
However, businesses will have two years to change
their labels to comply with the new law before it
becomes mandatory on 1 July 2018.
Under the new system, most foods that are produced,
grown or made in Australia will be required to display
a label with:
the kangaroo in a triangle symbol so you can easily
and quickly identify the foods Australian origin
a statement indicating that the food was grown,
produced or made in Australia
the minimum proportion, by ingoing weight, of
Australian ingredients, indicated by a percentage
amount and shown in a bar chart.
LABEL LIKE THIS
EXAMPLES
If Made in Australia appears on a jar of
jam, this means that the substantial
transformation of the jam took place in
Australia the raw ingredients (e.g.
Fruit, sugar) were cooked together in
Australia to make the jam. It doesnt
necessarily mean that the
ingredientswere grown, sourced or
processed in Australia.
CURRENT ISSUES RELATED TO PACKAGING AND LABELLING IN AUSTRALIA

As per the news distributed by Kara Vickery

News Corp Australia Network for unfenced
eggs which says "unfenced", it implies it
limits makers to one chicken for every
square meter and requires "significant and
customary access" to the outside, will
likewise be a piece of the progressions
declared today.
Similarly in the with Palm Oil and
Therapeutic Goods.
CONTI.....

Australian packaging industry falling short recycling goal, may

cut target
The Australian Packaging Covenant, which covers some 900
companies and the state and federal governments, had set a
target of recycling 70 per cent of all used packaging over the
five-year plan toJune 30, 2015.
However, a leaked excerpt of a review of the periodfound
the industry would miss its recycling rate goal
andrecommended the council consider dropping the target.
CONCLUSION
The government is making sure new labels will be on
products as sson as possible and has promised to review the
system in two years.

This proposal isnt perfect, but its better and in two years
will be calling for further improvements .in the meantime,
government will encourage to the manufacturers to provide
most of the information on where the main ingredients of a
product come from.

Packaging is the important part of marketing of a product .It

also protects to products from physical, chemical and
microbiological invasion. The package also provides a
medium for presenting advertising messages and other
important information to the consumer and finally, the
packaging one of the greatest influences on a consumers
decision to try your product.
