JUNE WANDREY WWII

BY KATIE SUTHERLAND
JUNE WANDREY
June is 21, She became an army nurse after leaving the mayo clinic in Wisconsin.
She deployed to Algeria from Mount Kilmer, New Jersey. June joined shortly after the
attack on Pearl Harbor because they didnt have many nurses.
June isnt exactly fighting but she is on 24 hour shifts in an operation tent, she is
exaughsted and feels bad for the people fighting so she pushes past it. She fights in
Oran, Algeria helping injured and fatigued soldiers. Boys come in injured some
badly and they ask me, how am I doing, I just kiss their heads and say youre
doing great and then they die and everyone has a moment to themselves to cry
but never in front of the boysnever.
WAR EXPERIENCE

Junes experience during the war is tiring and upsetting, she wants to see her family
but she has to keep helping the soldiers as they fight.
Its filthy here and it feels like I am in the dark ages again. when she first gets to
Oran there is already 7 ambulances full of wounded men. June wants more than
anything to save lives and make a difference.
June participated in North Africa, Italy, Break out of France, and Liberating
concentration camps.
NORTH AFRICA

Troops in Tunisia are trying to trap Germans to chase them back to Germany. 6,000
casualties. It is called operation torch they find a group of German men and they
moved them north but a man shot all of them because he knew that they were
Jews. 5 months after launching torch landing they pushed the Germans and won
the battle. (1943)
ITALY (SICILY)

September 3, 1953 Italy surrenders but Hitler keeps on. The first attack on
mainland Europe by allies. Italy is a ally to Germany. June is helping in the
operation tent shes tired and waiting for a time to break but she has to keep
moving she says how can the older ladies keep the pace.
AIR WAR

to bomb on Germany. There were other aircrafts out to protect the bombers they
had to get them to the area that they could bomb.
INVASION OF FRANCE ( D-DAY)

At the start they go through the English channel, they had to

make sure to keep the luffe waffe away. If the allies want to
win they have to make a landing and push Germans back
from the fortress Europe or mainland. One of the bombers as
they unload they do to early and they almost kill their own
men.
BREAK OUT OF FRANCE

After breaking through defenses Hitler wants to fight along the bunkers and tank
traps. They are the first Americans to enter the Reich. They have to move through
the streets and then they have to move through.
BATTLE OF THE BULGE

Germans push the allies back almost 40 miles creating a bulge across lines. If you
push through the Ardennes and capture Belgium port then it cuts allies in two. It
thinks that it will make Hitler negotiate but conditions were pretty bad.
PUSH INTO GERMANY

The goal is to capture Belgium and cross the Rhine river. They finally won the
germans the bedsheets hung from windows as a sign of surrender.
LIBERATING CONCENTRATION CAMPS

Hitler put away people that he thought were undesirable such as homosexuals
