Taeniasis Hosts
Secondary hosts:
Taenia solium (pigs)
Taenia saginata (cows)

Man is the principal host

Tissues Affected
Larvae mature in the intestines

Travels via the circulatory and lymphatic system to other

body tissues including the brain, liver and other organs.

Larval cysts can also occur in various tissues, including

the brain (cysticercosis)
Route of transmission
The route of transmission for
humans is the consumption
of undercooked beef, pork.
Intermediate hosts consume

the eggs in their environment and

food, where they move to the intestine, hatch there, and travel
to the muscle fibres of that host.
Humans then eat the undercooked meat, and it goes to the

intestine where it can develop into an adult within 2 months.
