Introduction
Physical abilities exceed the minimum requirement,
ensure the smooth running of tasks and welfare
because they can perform additional tasks after
performing routine activities, this is known as
physical fitness
The component of physical fitness which related to
health are cardiorespiratory endurance, body
composition (body mass index), muscle strength and
endurance, and flexibility.
On the physical fitness of students is very important
to support, facilitate and expedite the activities of
the lecture
Introduction
At 2009, Faculty of Sport Sciences (FIK)
obtained 12.72 UNY students has a level of
physical fitness is very poor, 20% poor.
Research at the medical faculty of the
University of Andalas in 2007 to 100 students
obtained 56% had less level of physical
fitness
Objective
to know the relationship between BMI with
cardiorespiratory endurance, muscle strength
and endurance, and flexibility
Methode
This cross sectional study included 72 male
students of Medical Faculty of Andalas University.
Cardiorespiratory endurance obtained by
calculating the value of bycycle ergometer test,
conducted measurement of height and weight,
muscle strength is graded with a hand
dynamometer and back strength dynamometer,
muscle endurance is assessed with the bent leg
sit-up, and flexibility with the sit and reach test,
trunk extension, and shoulder lift.
Data were analyzed by correlation test.
Result
The result showed average BMI 22,08 4,55,
VO2 max 35,27 2,25, right grip strength
32,44 7,04, left grip strength 30,31 7,2,
back strength 100,9 19,43, bent leg sit-up
29,29 8,43 in one minute, sit and reach test
4,61 2,61, trunk extension 29,21 10,01,
and shoulder lift 38,06 9,5.
Results
There is a low significant negative correlation between
BMI with cardiorespiratory endurance ( r = -302, p = .
010 ),
There is no correlation between BMI with hand muscle
strength at right grip strength (r =128, p = 283) and left
grip strength (r =.151, p = 204),
There is a medium significant correlation between BMI
with back muscle strength (r = 411, p = .000),
There is a low significant negative correlation between
BMI with muscle endurance (r = -.283, p = .016) .
There is no correlation between BMI with trunk extension
(r =.017, p =890) and shoulder lift (r = 061, p =613).
Conclution
BMI correlated with cardiorespiratory
endurance, back muscle strength and muscle
endurance
