Expressions of Comparison is
an expression is used to
express something
comparisons
Expressions of comparison can
be classified into tree:

Expressions of Similarly
Expressions of Difference
Expressions of Degrees
Expression of Similarity
(expression similarity)
It is used to express something in common, which can be
expressed by using the words / Pattern: The same as /
Like, the same as + Noun +, and As + Adjective + As.
Example:
My laptop is the same as yours. / My laptop is like yours.
Andy's laptop is the same type as mine.
His laptop is as expensive as mine.

Notes:
Sometimes the pattern is used as ...... as well as many /
much + noun to express the similarity number. Example:
Fey has as many books as I (do).
Expression of Difference
It is used to express something different,
which can be expressed by means
pattern: To be + different from the
negative form sentences and expressions
of similarity by adding (Not).
Example:
My daily activities are different from
Debby's activities.
My laptop is not the same as yours.
Andy's laptop is not as expensive as
mine.
Expression of Degrees
It is used to express something that is
terraced, which is divided into two:

Comparative Degree (Level Comparison)

Superlative Degree (Top Level)


Comparative Degree
It is used to compare two things or two groups of things, which
can be used by using: Adjective / adverb + -er, and use more
words ......
Example:
My laptop is bigger than Andy's is.
My laptop is more expensive than Andi's is.
Deny does his homework more than Yono Quickly does.

Notes:
Adjective / adverb + -er: used if Adjective / adverb only one

syllable (big-bigger, tall-taller, small-smaller etc.) and ending in Y


(happy-happier, busy-busier etc.)
More Words used if Adjective / adverb more than one syllable and

adverb / adjective that ends in Y. (Carefully-more carefully, Cleary-


more Clearly etc.)
Comparative Degree is always followed by Than.
Superlative Degree
It used to say any thing that is the most among others, which
can be used by using: Adjective / Adver + -est, and using said
Most.
Example:
Febby is the smartest students in the D class.
Jakarta is the busiest cities in Indonesia.
Dony Quickly does his homework most of all.

Notes:
Adjective / adverb + -est: used if Adjective / adverb only one

syllable (big-biggest, tallest tall-, small-smallest etc.) and


ending in Y (-happiest happy, busy-busiest etc.)
Most used word if Adjective / adverb more than one syllable

and adverb / adjective that ends in Y. (Clearly-most Clearly,


etc. Quickly Quickly-most)
Comparative Degree is always followed by the (definite

article) and preposition-in / of.
