INTRODUCTION RESULTS OF CFD ANALYSIS OF THE KCS

The increasing importance of shipping as a tool in the HULL FORM

The study takes a look at ship emissions and regulatory

approaches to support shipping efficiency. Available ESD

wake profile of a particular ship would be assed.
METHODS
Consideration of IMO regulations on ship operations as
related to emission and shipping efficiency in the area of
EEDI and EEOI.
EEDI, Energy Efficiency Design Index; gives a baseline
quantity of CO2 emissions allowed and hence efficiency
required from new builds from 2013. A tool to control ship
emissions and a guideline to ship builders.
EEOI, Energy Efficiency Operational Index; A monitoring
tool for older build ships on the efficiency of their cargo to
fuel usage. This is aimed at helping to measure efficiency
of operations and hence know how to improve same.
A matrix of the available Energy Saving Devices tabulated,
inputting the location, function, operating principle, vessel
type and speed. Also, applicability, cost of installation and
limitation was considered. This would help in choosing an
ESD for a new build ship or a refit.
EXPERIMENT
A KCS hull form was gotten to check the effect of varying
draft on the fluid flow at the aft and also the wake field.
Preliminary analysis have strated but results of the plane
around the hul is yet to be gotten.
