Objectives
The main objective of this project is to automize the labour
work in tightening or removing the nuts one by one.

This project focus on the minimization of human effort and

time consuming for fixing all four nuts of the four wheel tyre
in a single stroke.

To avoid time wasting and lot of energy used to change the

tyre

Problem Statement
Existing Technology:
Impact wrenches is most commonly used in the place where the high torque
output is required , likewise it is used to remove the wheel nuts of
automobiles by means of electric or hydraulic powers.

Gap:
It takes more time and causes damage to thread, so we go for
multi nut tightner.

Solution:
To reduce time and thread damage
To used to reduced human effort during tightening and
loosening the nut , So we go for multi nut Tightener is used.

Pitch circle diameter:
Pitch circle diameteris a term used to describe the
centerlinediameterof a circular bolt spacing,
thediameterof theoretical friction discs that would transmit
the same velocity ratio as two meshing gears, or
thediameterat which the thread tooth equals the thread
spacing for screw threads.

Multi nut tightener and remover

It works on the principle wheel is a very frequent job performed by the

worker. Normally each of the four nuts is losing/tighten individually by simultaneously
applying the spanner/lever. Either with the help of mechanism developed that one can
loosen or tight all four nuts at a time and at the single stroke of the hand operated or
motor operated lever.

1) ON the MOTOR regulator switch.

2) It consist of 5 spur gears , 4 shafts for spur gears , 4 box spanner, 2

side plates .
Torque wrench
The torque to remove one nut has been measured. Each
nut has been measured four times to get the accurate average
value. The measure be defines by using torque wrench. The meter
on the torque wrench shows how much torque needed to move a
nut. Below is the picture of torque wrench used.
Methodology
Gear calculation :
To determine the diameter and the number of teeth in the gear
for the further process.
Fabrication:
To fabricate the components required for assembly such as
gear, base plate, spanner holder and central shaft with spline key
way.
Assembly:
Once all the materials are fabricated then the parts are
assembled by means of welding, nut and bolt arrangement.
Experimental details

It consist of 5 spur gears , 4 shafts for spur gears , 4 box spanner, 2

side plates .
Where 1 gear is sun gear, and other 4 gear are planetary gear.
Gear arrangement:
Box spanner:
17mm box spanner is used to remove the nut from the
wheel.
Side plate:
Result:
1) The multiple operated spanner for four wheeler vehicle with
100mm PCD is done.

2) The torque of applied for removing / tightening of lug nuts is

adequate and replacement the nuts at much faster rate as
compared to the conventional spanner. The human effort
required for operating the spanner is relatively same.

3) Therefore it is recommended that the multiple operated

spanner if fabricated will prove very much beneficial for
installation of wheels while assembling the cars.
Conclusion:

1) The multi nut remover is used to remove multiple nuts in a single use .
These are commonly used to remove the wheel nuts and hence the
mechanical effort required for removing the wheel is very less

2) The Multi nut remover can be used in automobile units and

manufacturing units. The weight of the model can be reduced by using a light
weight material base plate. The wheel nuts can be easily removed using the
multi nut remover.
Future scope:
1) Improvement in the system by making automatic operation with
the help of pneumatic system which is clean and hazardous free.
2) To design and fabricate the complete assembly of the multiple
operated spanner to be fitted to all vehicle wheels by adjusting pitch circle
diameter by making pinion gear small or large as per wheels pitch circle
diameter.
3) By replacing the motor with different gear arrangements in such
manner so that it can be operated manually by hand lever with less power
requirement. The weight of the model can be reduced by using a light weight
material of base plate.
4) It is also suggested to operate it with different gear arrangements
with less power required.
