DISATER

MANAGEMENT
WHAT IS DISATER ?
It is a phenomenon involving extensive
ecological disruption leading risk to life ,
property and health to an extent
warranting extra ordinary response from
outside the affected area.
TYPES OF DISATER

cyclon Earth
floods
es quakes
FLOODS

When ever the magnitude of water flow

exceeds the carrying capacity of the
channel within its banks , the excess of
water over flows on the surroundings
causes floods .
CAUSES AND EFFECTS
Natural: Primary Effects:
Heavy Rains Physical Damage
Melting of Ice during Casualties(death)
volcano
Man-Made:
Under sea earthquake
Secondary
Construction of dams Effects:
and reservoirs Water
Blockage of drains Supplies(cont
lead to flooding of the aminated)

EARTHQUAK
EDISASTER
EARTHQUAKE

An Earthquake is a sudden vibration caused on the

earths surface due to the sudden release of
tremendous amount of energy stored in the rocks
under the earths crust.
Earths crust has several tectonic plates of solid
rocks .These plates move slowly along their
boundaries. When friction prevents these plates from
slipping , stress develops and results in sudden
fractures with in the plates. This causes earthquakes
and the violent vibrations from the earth.
CAUSES AND EFFECTS

Causes: Effects:
From man made It collapses houses and
water bodies like other structures due to
dams , resevoirs poor construction.
lakes . Severe earthquake
Decrease of under results in deformation of
ground water level ground surface.
Under ground Thousands of people
nuclear testing loss their lives.
CYCLONE
DISASTER
CYCLONE
Cyclone is a meterological phenomena , intense
depressions forming over the open oceans and moving
towards the land. On reaching the shores, it move into
the interior of the land.
Cyclones are most powerful, destructive, dangerous
atmospheric storms on the earth. Their speed varies
between 180-500km/hr.
CAUSES AND EFFECTS

Causes: Effects:
Because of heat The damage to human
and moisture life, crops, roads,
Sea surface transport,
communication could
temperature be heavy.

development of the
area.
FLOOD IN BANGLADESH-1974:
o Every year in Bangladesh, large areas are
submerged during monsoons. In 1974,flooding
extended nearly one-half of the country. Nearly
1500 people died in the floods.
EARTHQUAKE IN IRAN:
o Earthquake in 1971 killed 25000 people, in 1900,
50000 people killed in Iran.
CYCLONE IN ORISSA-1999:
o Two cyclones occurred in Orrisa on 18th and 29th
of October 1999.It has been reported that nearly
15 million people were affected and 90-95% of
the crop was affected.
