Objectives

Understand the HAAD standers


and guidelines for vaccine
administration at school (public
and private).
SCOPE/TARGET AUDIENCE

Licensed school health Nursing staff.


POLICY STATEMENT
-follow recommendation of HAAD.

-Identify and minimize barriers for vaccines.

- School nurse must demonstrate vaccines


competence.

- Required singed consent before vaccination:


1- vaccine consent.
2- pre-vaccination checklist.
POLICY STATEMENT

Adverse reaction:
-Inform direct in charge then
-fill HAAD form of adverse event,
-follow anaphylaxis policy and manual.
- Then reported in PSN.
POLICY STATEMENT
Prepare vaccine and vaccination it is aseptic
technique. If swap used let skin to dry.
Vaccine statues confirmed by written and
dated vaccine record, if vaccine not
produced the person consider as defaulter.
In catch-up vaccination, follow HAAD catch-
up vaccine program for public schools,
private school to be referred to PHC for
planning visits for vaccinations.

contraindication.

Provide health education for all (student,

parent, school staff) about vaccine( risk,


benefits).
Student education to be documented.
School nurse who is responsible for

preparing and administration of vaccine.

Syringe should be filled when the


presence of target student, if large
number to be vaccinate not more than
10 syringe to be filled with maintain
cold chain.
MMR and Varicella must be given
immediately with reconstituted.
Cold chain should be maintained at all
procedure, if cold chain broken vaccine
not to be used and notify.
POLICY STATEMENT
Extra vaccine for any reasoned to be
returned to store.
Expired or spoilt vaccine not to be used
and returned to store.
Epinephrine must be available at vaccine
event, in case of anaphylactic reaction.
Vaccine recorded should be Accurate,
completed and easily to reached.
Procedures

Preparation
1- singed vaccine consent and pre-vaccine checklist.
2- if vaccination record not available distribute vaccine card request and
collect pre and school age vaccination card.
3- all document will kept in hard copy (filled, singed and dated).
4- health education for student and parent about vaccine, and document on
Malaffi.
5- send vaccine demand to the store,( form 16).
6- target student list, (form 18).
7- 20-30 student per day for vaccine.
8- arrange date with in charge nurse and store to deliver vaccine.
9- notify school administration and parent for date.
10- health education for student, parent and school staff. (benefits and risks).
Procedures
Administration of vaccine
1- check list of target student for (absent and sick) to postpone.
2- check student temperature.
3- prepare vaccine area and equipment.
4- check vaccine clarity, expire date. ( manufacturers recommendation).
5- maintain cold chain during and at the end of vaccination.
6- before start vaccination recheck allergy and pre vaccine check list.
7- review date of last immunization.
8- invite student and class teacher to the clinic.
9- tow identifiers, for student.
10- maintain privacy.
11- hand washing as per policy.( gloves not required).
12- appropriate size syringe and needle.
13- use only diluents provided by manufacturers.
14- position the student, restrain if needed.
15- clean the skin ( alcohol wipe and allow to dry).
16- administered vaccine as recommended.
17- discard all used equipment in the sharp containers.
Procedures
POST VACCINATION Nurse responsible for:
1- documentation all necessary data on vaccine card and Malaffi.
2- observe vaccinated student for 20 minutes after vaccination,
( comfortable position).
3- report adverse reaction to HAAD, in charge nurse, use form #20,
one copy remain in student record and the second is to be
forwarded to HAAD and school health management.
4- other significant event after vaccination to be reported to in
charge nurse and on the PSN.
5- after end vaccination report to in charge nurse vaccination
statistics (form 17), vaccination list (form 18).
