Srinagarind Dam Location
Srinagarind dam is located on the Quae Yai River, at Ban Chao Nen,
Tha Kradan Sub-district, Sri Sawat District in Kanchanaburi
Province or about 200 kilometers northwest of Bangkok.

Benefits

Srinagarind dam and hydro power plant has played a vital rule
in enhancing the countrys development and improving the
well being of Thai people. Various benefits contribute by this
multipurpose project include:

- Sufficient water supply for irrigation


- Average annual energy production is 1,250 million kWh
- Better flood control for Mae Klong River Basin
- Potential source of fish breeding that brings additional
income to the local community
- One of the tourist attractions in Kanchanaburi Province
(recreational area)

Historical Background

In March 1973, the project was approved by the Government


and its construction work was started in the same year.

In 1977, with the royal permission, it was named Srinagarind


dam after H.R.H. Princess Mother.

In 1980, the construction was completed.

On June 15,1981 His Majesty the King graciously officiated the


operation of Srinagarind dam and power plant.

Total investment of the project including the dam, a


powerhouse with 5 generating units, transmission system
amounts to 6,811 Million Baht, categorized as follows;

Foreign Currency: 4,221 Million Baht


Local Currency: 2,590 Million Baht

* The dam creates a reservoir covering an area 419 square
kilometers.

* The storage capacity is 17,745 million cubic meters (the biggest


reservoir in Thailand).

The total capacity is 720 MW, consists of three 120 MW


conventional turbine generators and two 180 MW
reversible pump turbine generators.

There are three gates of Spillway with Open channel
chute type.
To discharge water when the water in the reservoir is
higher than the maximum level (180 m MSL.)
The maximum discharge is 2,420 m3/s

4. Transmission System
Srinagarind power plant is connected with the countrys grid
system by 230 kV of transmission line.
- From Srinagarind to Ban Pong 3 lines
- From Srinagarind to Kanchanaburi Province 1 line
- From Srinagarind to Vajiralongkorn 2 lines
A 115 kV transmission line is also built to connect the switchyard
of Tha Thung Na.
