Art Terms Still Life: (From the Dutch,stilleven) is a painting/drawing featuring an arrangement of still, non-living, everyday objects, whether natural objects (flowers, food, etc.) or manufactured items (books, bottles, etc.). Value: The lightness or darkness of tones or colors. White is the lightestvalue; black is the darkest. Thevaluehalfway between these extremes is called middle gray. Space An element ofartby which positive and negative areas are defined or a sense of depth achieved in a work ofart. Composition: The term is used to describe the arrangement of the visual elements in a painting or otherartwork. Overlapping: Occurs when objects that are closer to the viewer prevent the view of objects that are behind them. Still Life Objects- High School Credit 1.Sketchbook: Bring in 5 objects and practice drawing your still life objects. 2.Final Draft Requirements: -Draw 5 still life objects overlapping each other (Focus on creating an interesting composition.) -Show value in each object (shading light, medium, dark.) -Darker shading around objects and lighter shading towards the middle of objects. -Add any additional cast shows, details of table, etc. -Draw true to size (fill entire page with objects.) -SHOW DETAIL! DETAIL! DETAIL! -Keep all 5 objects at school (take photograph of still life and print it out if you want to work on your artwork home.) 3.Write your first/last name & period on back of artwork. 4.
