1.INTRODUCTION
Railway Over Bridge are being planned at a large number of places in India.

The main aim is to eliminate the traffic congestion.

The roads and bridges are very important for the growth of economy of the

country.
3

Traffic congestion is one of the main problem in our country.

ROB plays a major role in stream lining the traffic control system.

To increase the capacity of traffic flow and reduce the traffic congestion on both

direction.

This paper deals with the design of a railway over bridge.

4
2.HISTORY OF BRIDGE

In INDIA the first bridge was constructed in MUMBAI on 14 th April,1965.

It was 48 ft. ( 15 m).

It segregates the North-South and East-West Traffic at the junction.

5
3.AIM
To reduce the traffic congestion at Kaniyapuram Railway Station.

Concept and planning of a ROB at that place.

6
4.OBJECTIVE
To constructing a ROB by eliminating the level crossing.

To avoid the delay time when the gates are closed.

To eliminate the traffic block at the near by National Highway road and the

adjacent road.
7

To study current traffic flow and make necessary changes.

5.METHODOLOGY

Site visit and traffic study were done.

The location and layout of the bridge is prepared.

Details regarding the requirements is collecting from various sources.

8 The layout was drawn using autocad.

6.SITE
Proposed site at Kaniyapuram.

Half kilometer from NH-47.

8.PRELIMINARY DESCRIPTION

Bridge type - Railway Over Bridge(ROB).

Length of bridge - 480m

Large span - 30m

Carriageway width - 7m

Footpath - 2m

Width of bridge - 12m

9.COMPONENTS

Main slab

Pier

Pier cap

Girder

Foundation
10.TRAFFIC STUDY

A traffic study is conducted at the site on peak hours.

The peak hour time was selected based on the survey conducted at that place.

The two arms and the adjacent road of the site was observed.

The number of vehicles passed was converted to PCU(Passenger Car Unit).

13.LITERATURE REVIEW
NARABODIE SALATOOM & PICHAI TANEERANANON A
study of a fly over Bridge.
This helps to study about the present traffic and road safety issues at the
site. Helps to collect data about the traffic movement and to calculate the
PCU of vehicles and also the safety factors while constructing a flyover.

M.AMEERUTHEEN,SRI.ARAVINDAN Study of stress on girder.

From this to study about the effect of stresses in slabs and the effect of
skew angle in the bridge. The beam and the slab considerations white
constructing is known from the journal.

LAKSHMI G,MEERA R KRISHNA Analysis and Design of Railway
Over bridge at Kumaranellur.
The design of super structure of ROB proposed at Kaniyapuram is doing
and the drawings are drawn with the help of AutoCAD and also the
specifications is preparing. Design is doing manually using relevant
codes. With the help of this the different loads and forces that are likely
to act on the structure are considered.

K Analysis and design of ROB

By studying the necessity of flyover and the components of the flyover was
known. The preliminary design of components also studying with the help of
this journal using relevant IRC codes.

MIRA PATEL Solution for reduction for traffic congestion

The solution of reducing the traffic congestion by doing traffic study and the
analysis of various traffic study was done with the help of this journal. This
journal also states that flyover is the better to construct at this site.

Feasibility study for planning of ROB.
To solve the traffic issues and a improper drainage system states that constructing a
flyover at the railway crossing is a viable option. So a feasibility study is done based
on this by considering the cost effective , safe and fast movement of vehicles.

ANKIT M PATEL Economic evaluation for proposed highway ROB.

Various traffic studies are conducted to know about the volume count survey,

duration of gate closure, vehicle affected by gate closure and the economic analysis

like fuel consumption and time saving.

RONAK N MODI, M S POOJS PODAR Pre-feasibility study of

transportation in infrastructure.
Help to study about the diversion route when construction work taking
place and help to prepare the layout of the site and providing awareness
to the people and provide a proper diversion sign to the diversion route
with the view of economic point.
