1. INTRODUCTION 3

The use of concrete as building material is always in high demand.

High density of concrete will result in increased dead load on

building structures.

The use of light weight aggregate as light weight concrete is an

option to reduce the dead load on structures, especially for high

rise building.

In this project we are focusing on production of light weight

concrete using oil palm shell as coarse aggregate.

4

Oil palm shell (OPS) is a light weight aggregate from the

agricultural sector, it is one of a waste resulting from palm
oil industry.

In this study, the coarse aggregate is replaced at 10%,

15%,30%,50%.

The strength and mass variation is found out for each

percentage.
2. OBJECTIVE 6

1. To produce light weight concrete using oil palm shell as

coarse aggregate.

2. To determine the mass change of oil palm shell light

weight concrete with normal concrete.

3. To investigate the variation of strength of oil palm shell

light weight concrete.

3. SCOPE OF STUDY 7

To provide a most economical light weight concrete.

Using the wastes in useful manner.

Minimizing the demand for coarse aggregate at an extent.

To reduce the dead load on building.

To reduce the cost of construction.

4. METHODOLOGY 8

1. Collection of materials.

2. Testing of materials.

3. Fixing of mix design and quantity required.

4. Test on fresh concrete.

5. Casting of cubes and cylinders.

6. Curing.

7. Compressive strength at 7,14 & 28 days are checked.
