A Project Presentation On -

PLASTIC FLEXIBLE
PAVEMENT

Under the Able Guidance of

Prof. Atul Soni

INTRODUCTION
1. Plastic flexible pavement road would be a boon
for India.
2. In hot and extremely humid climate durable and
eco-friendly plastic roads are of greatest
advantages.
3. The uses of plastic waste helps in substantially
improving the abrasion and slip resistance of
flexible pavement.
4. The consistent mixing time and mixing
temperature are not provided for bitumen
modifier mix, modified bitumen.
5. Use of plastic along with the bitumen in
construction of roads not only increases its life
and smoothness but also makes it economically
OBJECTIVE
1.To coat and check the aggregates with the waste plastic
materials.
2.To check the properties of bituminous mix specimen
(without mixing plastic).
3.To check the properties of bituminous mix specimen due
to coating of waste plastic materials.
4.To compare the properties of bituminous mix specimen
with the properties of coated aggregates.
In this project the study of some of plastic
waste materials which we can reuse by
certain processing and use in road
construction.
The discussed materials have many
advantages over conventional/traditional
materials and methods. This project will
conduct a study on recycling plastic waste and
blending it with bitumen to lay roads in India
and compare with the environmental and
economic conditions.
METHODOLOGY
Part-1. Following Tests were conducted to investigate
the properties of the aggregate as well as bitumen.

1 TESTS FOR AGGREGATE

1 Sieve Analysis of Aggregates

2 Specific Gravity & Water Absorption Test [IS: 2386
(Part 3) 1963]
3 Aggregate Impact Value Test [IS: 2386 (part 4) 1963]
4 Aggregate Crushing Value [IS: 2386 (Part 4) 1963]
5 Flakiness & Elongation Index Test [is: 2386 (part 1) 1963]
TESTS FOR BITUMEN

1. Penetration Test [Is: 1203-1978]

2. Softening Point Test [Is: 1205-1978]
3. Ductility Test [IS: 1208-1978]
4. Viscosity Test:
5. Flash Point and Fire Point
PREPARATION BITUMINOUS MIX WITH COATING OF WASTE PLASTIC
1.Basic process
* Collection of waste plastic
1.1 Segregation
Maximum thickness of plastic is 60 microns.
1.2 Cleaning Process
Plastic wastes get cleaned and dried
1.3 Shredding process
Will be shredded or cut into small piece.
The different types of plastic wastes are mixed
together
1.4 Collection process
The plastic waste retaining in 2.36 mm is collected.
MIXING OF PLASTIC AND BITUMEN

Dry process
Wet process

MIXING OF PLASTIC AND AGGREGATES
