How a Central Air Conditioner Works

A central air conditioner

has a primary appliance
such as an air handler or
furnace located in an
out-of-the-way place
such as a basement or
attic.This appliance
pumps chilled air
throughout the house
through a system of air
ductsoften the same
system utilized by a
forced-air furnace during
the heating season. One
or more thermostats in
the house turn the
cooling system off and
on as room temperatures A central air-conditioning system

through a network of ducts
How a Central Air Conditioner Works
Refrigerant such as Freon
circulates through copper
tubing that runs between
these components. This
refrigerant receives and
releases heat as it raises and
lowers in temperature,
changing from liquid to gas
back to liquid. The refrigerant
is especially cold when it
begins to circulate through the
indoor coil.
As the air handler pushes
warm air across the coil, the
refrigerant absorbs so much
heat from the air that it turns
into vapor. As a vapor, it
travels to a compressor that
pressurizes it and moves it
through the outdoor coil,
which jettisons the heat. A fan
also helps to dissipate the A central air conditioner cools with an
heat. The refrigerant then outdoor compressor and condenser
passes through an expansion coil connected to an indoor furnace
WORKING OF A.H.U

An Air Handling Unit (most of the times abbreviated to AHU), or Air

Handler, is a central air conditioner station that handles the air that,
usually, will be supplied into the buildings by the ventilation ductwork
(connected to the AHU).
Handling the air means that the air will be delivered into the building
spaces with thermo-hygrometric and IAQ (Indoor Air Quality) treatment.
The accuracy of the treatment will depend from the specificity of each
project (offices, schools, swimming-pools, laboratories, factories with
industrial processes, etc.). This means, the Air Handling Unit treat the air
by filtering, cooling and/or heating, humidifying and/or dehumidifying.
CONDENSER

Acondenseris a device or
unit used tocondensea
substance from itsgaseous
to itsliquid state, by
cooling it. In so doing,
thelatent heatis given up
by the substance, and will
transfer to the condenser
coolant. Condensers are
typicallyheat
exchangerswhich have
various designs and come
in many sizes ranging from
rather small (hand-held) to
very large industrial-scale
units used in plant
processes.
BOILER

Aboileris a
closedvesselin
whichwateror
otherfluidis heated.
The fluid does not
necessarilyboil. (In
North America, the
term "furnace" is
normally used if the
purpose is not to
actually boil the fluid.)
The heated or
vaporized fluid exits the
boiler for use in various
processes or heating
applications, including
water heating,central
heating
