What is a complete sentence?

A complete sentence is a group of words


that express a complete thought.

A complete sentence must have a noun


or pronoun and a verb.

The two parts of a complete sentence are


the subject and the predicate.
The subject is who are what is doing
something or who is something
in the sentence.
The children are tall.
Children is the subject of the sentence.
In this sentence the children are not doing
anything, but they are something.
The pronoun they takes
They are tall. the place of children.
In our next example the children will
be doing something.

The children swim everyday.


Again, children is the subject.

This time, the children do something.

They swim every day.


The predicate is the part of a sentence that has
the verb(s). It tell what the subject is or is
doing.
The children are tall.

Swim everyday is the predicate of the sentence.
