ME ELECTIVES 1 Cylindrical Coordinate Robots are robots whose axes form a cylindrical coordinate system.
Used for
-assembly operations,
-handling at machine tools,
-spot welding, and
-handling at die casting machines.
-They also have many uses in medical testing.
Advantages of Cylindrical Robots Almost independent of gravity, collision free movement. Two linear axis makes the mechanical design easier. Disadvantages of Cylindrical Robots Large size of structures, restrict to compatibility with other robots. Less accurate on the end resolution compared to Cartesian robot. BASIC STRUCTURE OF A CYLINDRICAL ROBOT
There are 3 degrees of
freedom CYLINDRICAL ROBOT
Pneumatic cylinders and
motors provide up-and-down motion and gears generally provide the rotation
