Issues in Developing Country

Energy
(energy Facts - developing country energy
facts
the different forms of energy production that
are considered green and the problems they
cause.
how many people have power
which countries have advanced grids
Costs behind the different amounts of power
it costs 12million for a 10mW power plant
but it only powers 100000 regular homes in a
year for example so cost figures
Access to modern energy
Sub-Saharan Africa has more
people living without access to
electricity than any other world
region more than 620 million
people

fossil fuel, fuelwood) will run
out faster than imagined

New Policies Scenario

describes the probable
pathway for energy markets
based on the continuation of
existing policies and
measures, and the
implementation, albeit often
cautiously, of the
commitments and plans
announced as of mid-2014 on
World Energy Outlook, even if
they are yet to be formally
adopted.

sector and how
they might affect supply costs, energy
efficiency and fuel choice, without
assuming any fundamental technological
breakthroughs.
Transitioning to renwables-challenges

The electricity generation capacity

is still not large enough
Renewable energy can be
unreliable
Low-efficiency levels
Requires a huge upfront capital
outlay
Waste Management

facts

landfill problems
Trends in waste disposal
Increasing severity of impacts
Severe health impacts
particularly on community in
vicinity of dumpsites.
Pollution of surface and sub
surface water bodies due to
leachate contamination.

Air pollution from

emissions of
spontaneous
combustion in dumps.
Adverse impacts on
fauna and flora.
Issues in developing
Countries
2050% of recurring budget of
municipalities is spent on solid waste
management although only 50% of urban
population is covered. In lowincome
countries collection alone drains 8090% of
total waste management budget.

20th CENTURY WASTE MANAGEMENT 21st CENTURY RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
How do we get rid of How do we handle our
our waste efficiently with discarded resources in ways
minimum damage to which do not deprive future
public health and the generations of some, if not all,

Employment

World employment facts

unemployment rates
world areas where this is a large problem ex
Zimbabwe 80% unemployed
Supply Chain
management
The problems change by areas. Ivory coast
has villages spread out in the forests, they
have to walk to deliver the produce they
produce to sell. Middle men with slow
logistics.

Produce dies quickly, no refrigeration, slow

logistics for deliveries, no data collection, the
education behind
Goal
To strategically include all (or some) the main societal
issues into a business plan

Whilst looking at the Issues, to create a more beneficial

relationship between the community and the business.
The business succeeds is economically beneficial for the
community who will also succeed

The benefits that will come form including the work

towards the resolution of the societal issues of a location
and using the negatives like landfills as part of the
business model - ex education and awareness, better
health and a healthier living conditions, economic benefits
and security, country economy and facts etc
Why is it so
complicated?
Geographical Location

Various Economic Situations - local, national,

international.

Political

The effects from one country solving a problem

causing problems for neighboring countries. i think
its Egypt building a damn on the nile river which will
potentially produce a very large amount of power to
their cities, but at the same time destroy a lot of the
life of the river down stream. As well going to affect
the livelyhood of the poeople down the river like
ethiopia and tanzania etc massively
The Great Green Wall
Millions of locals are already facing its devastating
impact of Climate change

Idea is to grow an 8,000km natural wonder of the

world

Goal is to provide food, jobs and a future for the

millions of people

Constructing an 8,000 km. fresh water

pipeline (1.2 m to 1.5 m diameter)
crossing 11 countries in the Sahel region
of Africa

Sustainable supply of clean water for

people and agriculture

Support the goal of the Pan African Great

Green Wall agency

The total fresh water output will be

800,000 cubic meters per day
Sahara Forest Project
Why is it a model of an inclusive business
model? and how does meet our Sustainably
inclusive business goals and why its
considered on this option?

Working in Jordan, Tunisia, Qatar

Achieving a triple bottom line

Saltwater-cooled greenhouses

Technologies for desert re-vegetation

Theory 1

Mini Grids Cote dIvoire (as a theory not a

business plan)
Diagram/illustration
costs
time strategy
Potential return
how it
How can a model like in
theory 1 be adapted to a
different location
theory one works in the ivory coast with the
mini grids. But a country like ex ethiopia
which has more land space and radiation from
the sun, may be able to produce more energy
from a solar implementation maybe including
creating roads and encouraging reforestation
around individual community
or in india where there is a winter, something
that costs a lot or is difficult for a community
is water and house heating so maybe you
would use geothermal instead of sun mainly
with a winter food storage section
Conclusion

now yes its great to say that all these issues

should be solved together to create a profit
and benefit

costs are usually high and the years needed

for return are long - which means a high risk
in a constantly changing world.
