Term Definition
Analysis Answers a query against an organizations data

Column Represents data that an analysis returns. Measure columns contain

numeric measures, while the membership of attribute columns are
descriptive, and that of hierarchies represent relationships.

Filter Mechanism that restricts the result set returned by an analysis

Prompt Special kind of filter that interactively restricts the result set
returned by an analysis; can be used to populate variables
Selection Mechanism that determines column membership included in an
analysis
Criteria Set of columns, filters, formatting, and properties specified for an
analysis
Results Output returned from Oracle BI Server for a specified analysis
Subject Area Logical object that organizes and presents data about a business

Dashboard Filter object that interactively filters all content on a dashboard

Subject Areas
Contain information about the areas of
your organizations business

Columns
In analyses, represent the pieces of data
that an analysis will return
Are organized into folders and subject areas
Fall into three types:
Attribute columns contain a list of members that
describe a measure.
Hierarchical columns contain a list of members
representing different levels in a hierarchy,
allowing rollup aggregation at succeeding levels.
Can represent both level-based and parent/child
hierarchies
Measure columns contain numeric values that are
aggregated for attributes and hierarchical
members and levels.
Hierarchies
Are definitions of contained-by or
belongs-to relationship of members
