Mobile Learning

Defined and Discussed

2

Hello!

I AM JILLIAN ASTREN
This is my definition of mobile learning
3

Mobile learning is the result of disruptive shift

in education using a blended learning approach and
mobile educational technologies. It is the process
in which students can be true 21st century learners and
prepares them for their
future as digital citizens.

Approach

A disruptive shift must take place in

order for mobile learning to succeed.

Involves redefining the responsibilities of

teachers and students, blurring the lines
between formal and informal learning
(McQuiggan, 2015).

to transform education in ways that have

impact, a bottom-up and top-down strategy
should be implemented (Schwartz, 2014).
Autonomous Team.

mobile technologies offer a new paradigm

in connectivity, communication, and
collaboration in our everyday lives. For
education, these are huge opportunities to
provide an experience that is relevant and
engaging (McQuiggan, 2015).
6
Mobile educational
technologies allow for the experience
of mobile learning.

The evolution of educational technologies

gives rise to the experience and opportunity
of mobile learning. However, it matters
tremendously not only that [educational
technologies] be added to the educational
process, but that the educational process
shift to incorporate new capabilities.
(McQuiggan, 2015).
7
A blended learning approach is
necessary when using mobile technologies in
learning settings (Richards, 2013).

Blended learning is a formal education

program in which a student learns at least in
part through online learning with some
element of student control over time, place,
path, and/or pace and at least in part a
supervised brick-and-mortar location away
from home. The modalities along each
students learning path in a course or subject
are connected to provide an integrated
learning experience. (Staker, Horn, 2014).

A key point in mobile learning theory is that

is it the learner that is mobile, not the
technology (Richards, 2013).
