- Decided Music and exercise is more relevant because of my future


career
In Context

Sport officials believe music is considered a distraction so it is


typically not used for the athletes in sporting events. In fact it was
banned from a marathon in New York. Was thisa smart move on
their part?
Benefits

Elevates mood

Increases endurance

Reduces fatigue

Psychologically make the athlete perform better


Drawbacks

Is considered a distraction

May affect the safety of the athletes surroundings

Eliminates an important factor that is communication


Definition of Distraction

something that directs one's attention away from something else

Typically considered negative connotation, but necessarily true


Good Distraction

the person is benefiting from being distracted


Music benefits the athlete because his/her performance elevates when
listening to music
Bad Distraction

the person is not benefiting from being distracted

Music eliminates communication amongst other athletes and coaches


Only Certain Types of Music Benefit
The Athlete

Music must have:

Motivational Connotation

Fast paced tempo (155-170 beats per minute)


Objective

Unfortunately it is not reasonable to allow athletes to listen to music


because communication is the most important factor in sports.

However specific music should be used when conditioning athletes or


training pupils
