the OM1 Student Guide, dedicated to BSS Operation &
Maintenance tasks,
a typical OMC-R hardware configuration including:
- two redundant servers (with operational X.25 links for Bsc2G
or IP connections for Bsce3) and several workstations,
- optional equipments:
- a laser printer,
- one or more Remote Operation Terminals (ROTs) (V22b
modem, XYPLEX) for Bsc2G and a Remote ACcEss
(RACE) for Bsce3
In a lecture room, the students are allowed to access an OMC-R
connected to a BSS on one side and to a NSS on the other side (so that
some calls can be established).

Objectives

This course covers the principles and describes the procedures

related to the BSS Operation and Maintenance tasks. It is based on
the exhaustive use of the OMC-R. The course includes both a
theoretical part and a practical part. Emphasis has been put on many
hands-on exercises.

Upon completion of this course you will be able to:

create and setup the BSS (BSC, BTS and TCU) network, modify
the parameters, upgrade the BSS software version, backup and
restore the database
monitor performances network
maintain the BSS (understand alarms and notifications, then
accurately identify and locate the fault
