Action 1) Cross-use of equipment between raw and pasteurized product.


2) Poor operational procedures leading to contamination from the
plant environment.
3) Poor control or inadequate record keeping over the pasteurization
process.
4) pasteurizing, incubating and packaging equipment must be adequately
cleaned and sanitized
Addition information:

The largest recorded outbreak of foodborne botulism (contaminated in hazelnut yogurt) on June 1989 in
United Kingdom, where it affects 27 persons and 1 died.
They ate hazelnut yogurt 1 weeks before showing the symptoms such as :
Difficulty swallowing or speaking.
Dry mouth
Facial weakness on both sides of the face
Blurred or double vision
Drooping eyelids
Trouble breathing
Nausea, vomiting and abdominal cramps
Paralysis

-Notifying the Texas and Oklahoma health agencies promptly of any presumptive positive test result
for Listeria monocytogenes found in ingredients or finished product samples, and providing the state
agencies full access to all testing
-Ensuring that the companys Pathogen Monitoring Program (PMP) for Listeria in the plant
environment outlines how the company will respond to presumptive positive tests for Listeria species;
and, Instituting a test and hold program to assure that products are safe before they are shipped or

Action -MFPP in cooperation with FDA and LBOH, conducted a 5-day inspection in Whittiers Farm Inc.
-After the inspection was done, MDPH sent a letter to the Whittiers Farm Inc. about all the observed
violations during the inspection both in the production and plant.
-On February 1, 2008, Whittier Farms decided to permanently close the milk processing facility, citing
an inability to invest the money necessary to make the facility safe.
