WORK LIFE BALANCE OF NURSES IN
HOSPITALS: A COMPARATIVE STUDY
OF MALE & FEMALE NURSES OF
UDAIPUR DISTRICT

IMPORTANCE OF PROPOSED
INVESTIGATION
The demand for nurses is also increasing not only
because of the attractive salary and job security but
also because of the care they provide thus making a
difference in others lives which is generally not found
in many other careers

Apart from the profession nurses are also having


their personal & social life. The mismatch between
professional & personal life lead to work life
imbalance

If there is a mismatch in personal & professional life


of nurses then they would not be able to take care of
patients properly and quality of treatment will be
degraded
SCOPE OF STUDY
Issues related to work pressure, longer working
hours, harassment etc can be addressed by
introducing flexi-timing, job rotation, career growth,
family get-together, children school funds, child care
centres etc, which will motivate the employees to
work at place and give their 100% to their job.

It will also facilitates hospital management in


designing such strategies which are helpful in
maintaining work life balance of nursing staff

The present study will cover all the nurses of Udaipur


district irrespective of their gender
RESEARCH GAPS IN CONDUCTING
RESEARCH STUDY
A reasonable amount of research work has been
done on the work life balance and related aspects.
They almost studied all the components of work
life balance of female nurses, but no study has
came in the cognizance of the researcher, which
deals with work life balance of male nurses
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
To study the factors that affects the work life
balance of nurses.
To compare and measure the work life balance of
the male & female nurses of Udaipur district.
To expose the problems faced by the nurses in
maintaining work life balance
To study the work-life balance policies and
practices (formal & informal) available to nursing
staff across the hospitals of Udaipur District
To measure the impact of type of hospital on
work life balance
To suggest measures for improving the work life
balance of the nursing staff
HYPOTHESES
There is no significant difference in the work life
balance of male & female nurses.

There is no significant difference in the work life


balance of nurses working in public & private
hospitals.

Lack of Spouse support is a major factor causing


work life imbalance
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research design - This research is descriptive in nature
as the study aims to find out the work life balance of
nurses.

Data Collection instrument - The primary instrument to


collect data will be questionnaire.

Sampling - Stratified purposive sampling method will be


applied for collecting data from the nursing staff.
Population will be divided into strata according to gender
i.e. male & female, then representative sample will be
taken by researcher

Data Analysis - The data collected will be tabulated,


analyzed and interpreted by using statistical techniques
such as frequency distribution, chi square test and t-test
test etc. To analyze the data MS Excel and SPSS will be
used.
TENTATIVE CHAPTERIZATION
Introduction: This chapter will take an insight into the
subject matter. It will discuss the Concept and factors of work
life balance.
Review of Literature: Various papers, articles and studies
that have been carried out in different fields that are however
related to the subject will be explored in this chapter.
Research Methodology : This chapter will deal with the
aspects of research design, research problem, objectives,
hypothesis and analytical tools to be applied in study.
Data Analysis & Interpretation: In this chapter data so
collected will be tabulated and classified accordingly. Analysis
and interpretation will also be done on the basis of the stated
objectives and hypotheses.
Summary, Conclusion and Suggestions : In this chapter
conclusions shall be drawn and suggestions will be made to
improve the work life balance of nursing staff.
