Behavioural interventions improve quality

of life. Place notes in visible locations around
the house with daily plans and instructions for
how to use basic items.

Stepping up communication reminding the

person with vascular dementia what day it is,
where they live, and what is going on in the
family, can help keep them connected to the
here and now.

Prognosis
Vascular Dementia
Untreated, the prognosis is not good, usually
ends in death from stroke, heart disease, or
infection.
A person with vascular dementia may seem to
improve for periods of time until another stroke
takes away more brain function, memory, and
independence.
Vascular dementia is a serious condition, catching
it early and preventing further damage are the
best medicine.

Lewy Body Dementia
Unfortunately, LBD is a progressive disease
(usually over years), although the rate of
progression varies. In general, the lifespan of
patients diagnosed with LBD varies from
about 5 to 8 years.
Patients die from multiple complications
(immobility, falls, poor nutrition, swallowing
difficulties, or pneumonia). The prognosis of
LBD over time is fair to poor.

Alzheimers disease
AD is a progressive disease. The course of the
disease varies from person to person. Some
people have the disease only for the last 5
years of life, while others may have it for as
many as 20 years. The most common cause of
death in AD patients is infection.

Mixed Dementia
Most people with mixed dementia are diagnosed with
a single type of dementia, physicians often base their
prescribing decisions on the type of dementia that's
been diagnosed.
No drugs are specifically approved by the U.S. Food
and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat mixed
dementia.
Many researchers are convinced that growing
understanding of mixed dementia, coupled with
recognition that vascular changes are the most
common coexisting brain change, may create an
opportunity to reduce the number of people who
develop dementia.
Parkinsons Disease
Untreated, Parkinsons disease worsens over years. Parkinson's
may lead to a deterioration of all brain functions and an early
death.
Most people respond to medications. However, the extent of
responsiveness and the duration of how long the efficacy of the
drug lasts varies from person to person. The side effects of
medications are another deterrent in their use.
Movement disorder symptoms differ from person to person.
In some the mild symptoms may last for many years while in
others they may develop more quickly.
Non-motor symptoms may also vary from person to person. They
affect most people with Parkinson's at all stages of disease.
Some people with Parkinson's find that symptoms such as
depression or fatigue may be more cumbersome to deal with that
the movement disorders themselves.
