INTRODUCTION
RECONFIGURABLE ANTENNAS:

Reconfigurable antennas can provide diversity feature of

operating resonant frequency, polarization, and radiation pattern

What is Reconfigurable Antenna?

o Antenna system is able to change its functionality to

accommodate different standards on a single system.

o A reconfigurable antenna is one which alters its

radiation , polarization and frequency characteristics by morphing
its physical structures.

FREQUENCY RECONFIGURABLE
ANTENNA
Reconfiguring the operating frequency by modifying
the geometry, while other parameters such as radiation
and polarization characteristics remain unaffected

Smooth transitions take place within or between

operating bands without sudden changes -Continuous
frequency tuneable antennas

Switching device is used to operate at different

frequency bands Switched tuneable antennas.
It is the graphical representation of field pattern of radiation
from an antenna as a function of direction or space
coordinates.(it may have single or multiple beams)

POLARIZATION

It refers to the direction in which electric field vector e is aligned

during the passage of at least one complete cycle.
Frequency -5.52GHZ to 6.19GHZ
Substrate
Width -80mm
Length -63.6mm
Thickness-1.57mm
Di-electric constant(FR4-epoxy)-4.4
The fundamental frequency of the antenna is
determined using equation

(eff +0.3)((/)+0.264)
L = 0.412h
(eff 0.3)((/)+0.8)

The pin diodes provide three possible switching states:

CASE-1:ON-ON
In this state , both patch elements are radiating.

ADVANTAGES

Easily integrated with microwave integrated circuits

(MICs).

Capable of dual and triple frequency operations.

Supports both, linear as well as circular polarization.

High Performance

Light weight and low volume.

APPLICATIONS
Used in mobile satellite communication
system.
Direct broad cast television(DBS).
Wire less LANS.
Feed elements in coaxial system.
GPS system.
UHF Patch Antennas for Space.
CONCLUSION
The reconfigurable micro strip patch antenna was
designed with two different frequencies
5.52GHZ & 6.19GHZ depending on the ON or OFF
state of two switches.
Radiation pattern is same for all frequencies.
