Oral Project:

Students will create a poster about minerals and types of


minerals. They will be able to talk about minerals
properties according to the minerals shown on the poster,
and also a poster with Christian life characteristics .
Explain the information in class.

MINERALS

A mineral is a solid object found in nature that


has never been alive. There are different
minerals, and no two kinds are exactly alike. We
use minerals throughout the day. For example,
the salt on our food.
Minerals are also in many of the things
around us. For example, quartz is used
to make the glass in the window.

ROCK

A naturaly formed solid made of one or


more minerals.

WAYS TO IDENTIFY MINERALS
Hardness: is one property of minerals. We can
use a Mosh Scale to see the hardness of a
mineral. The hardest mineral in the scale is 10
ans the softest mineral is 1.

Color: Is a property that can also help identify


minerals.

Streak: is the color of the powder left behind by


a mineral when it is rubbed agains a rough
White tile.
Activity in class
Look at MOSH SCALE on page 250 and answer the
questions.

1. Which mineral shown here have a hardness of


about 5?

2. What is the hardest mineral?

3. What is the softest mineral?

4. Which mineral is harder than talc but softer than


apatite?
Homework

Write the correct order from hardest to


softest for the following minerals: topaz,
fluorite, talc, calcite, diamond, and quartz.
