CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION
LLARINAS, RIZALYN M.
PEREZ, SHERENCE MAE J.
INTRODUCTION
An introduction should announce your topic, provide
context and a rationale for your work before stating your
research questions and hypothesis. Well-written
introductions set the tone for the paper, catch the
readers interest, and communicate the hypothesis or
thesis statement.
WHY DO WE NEED AN
INTRODUCTION?
2 PARTS:
General Introduction
Thesis Statement
SAMPLE A (INTRODUCTION)

In the next millenium, nature is degraded by the over-

exploitation of the Earths natural resources, water,
especially clean water, would become a scarce and
valuable commodity. It is predicted that wars would be
fought by nations over the control of water resources. To
survive, it probably would be a good idea to set aside
political bickering at the moment and focus on the
problem at hand.
SAMPLE B (INTRODUCTION)
Whoever first said, its lonely at the top, must have
had the field of education in mindmore specifically,
women in education. Although women predominate at the
lower levels in education, the top of the educational field
is overwhelmingly composed of men. If women are to be
more fairly represented in educational administration,
they must overcome the restrictions imposed by the
current system, which is built on outdated ideas about
womens work and on stereotypes about womens
abilities.
DOS!
Write down a single sentence that states the topic
of your paper.
Write down what the body of your paper will prove
or argue.
Combine those statements and revise until the
sentence not only makes sense but gives a strong
position for your paper.
DONTS!

Avoid using the trite method of introducing a

subject by giving a dictionary definition. Also
pass up such well worn phrases as: the
purpose of this essay is... or in this paper i
will show...
THESIS STATEMENT: WRONG WAY!

Downloading music from internet is bad and

we must fight it.
I will show the negative effects of not
studying for a test.
THESIS STATEMENT: RIGHT WAY!

The culture of digital musical consumption

must be changed because the creation of the
musicians become worthless due to activity of
web pirates and people stop valuing music
according to its merit.
Poor study habits results in lower grade quite
averages, and this can lead to fewer academic
opportunities and career options for students.
TIPS:
Size Matters
Be Logical
Make it the last part
Review previous studies of your topic
