ADJECTIVES
An adjective is a word that tells us more about
a noun. It is usually used before a noun.

ADJECTIVES
We use the positive form when we compare two similar or
equal nouns.

as + adjective + as e.g. John is as tall as Ali.

We use the comparative form when we compare two


dissimilar or unequal nouns.
more + adjective + than e.g. May is more intelligent than Sue.
or
adjective + -er + than e.g. This house is smaller than that one.

We use the superlative form when we compare three or


more nouns.
e.g. This is the most interesting of
the + most + adjective
the three books.
or
the + adjective + -est e.g. Hisham is the fastest runner in
the team.
ADJECTIVES
The negative form of the adjective can be made by
adding un-, dis-, im-. For example:
unkind, unimportant, unfriendly, unhealthy, unfair,
uninteresting, unsafe
dishonest, disrespectful, disobedient, disapproving,
discourteous, etc.
impatient, improper, impossible, impractical, impersonal,
imperfect, etc.
Adjectives can be formed from nouns and verbs by adding
-al, -able, -ful, -less, -ous, -y, -ly, -ish, -ese, -ist, etc.
