KPGI PROCESS PRESENTATION

INTRODUCTION TO OIL AND GAS WITH SPECIAL

MENTION OF 9 WELL PLATFORM PROJECT
Name of presenter: A.Baxi
Date: 25th Jan 2005
Objective of this Presentation

To familarise Level I (entry level) process engineer with basic

elements of oil and gas process design.

To highlight key areas of process design for a production facility for oil
and gas

To serve as a introduction for further reading on the subject

Introduction

In this presentation typical production facility is discussed

Processing of oil and gas on the platform is not a part of this

presentation

The elements discussed in the presentation are

Drilling and production

Facilities on production platform

Drilling

Drilling of an oil well is a specialised activity. This is done by a Drilling Rig

The driller caps the well by installing a Casing

The Casing consist of the following

A number of concentric pipes called Strings

Production tubing

Casing head

Each of these are depicted in the following slides

Well fluid composition

The well fluid may contain any or all of the following

Desirable constituents
Oil
Gas
Undesirable constituents
Water (not required)
H2S (corrosion)
CO2 (corrosion)
Sand (abrasive)
Wax etc (plugging)

Process design objective is to optimise extraction of oil

and gas considering the effect of the undesirable
constituents
